The Rangers had lost 5-2 to the Huskies in round-robin play. Oakville routed the Chicago Bruins and Indianapolis Racers by 9-0 scores in its other two preliminary-round contests. Members of the Rangers are Douglas Bertrand, Antoine Brochu, Jared Chen, JJ Cipriano, Alex Cox, Logan Crozier, Luke Hatfield, Christian Hayes, Marko Jugovic, Patrick Leon, Alex Marceau, Lukas Marek, Erik Rittershaus, Jacob Serensits, Ben Sisokin, Tyler Spence and Ryan Wolski. Bantam Rangers win Chicago Fall Classic By Jon Kuiperij BEAVER SPORTS EDITOR When two teams are as evenly matched as the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders and Iroquois Ridge Trailblazers junior girls basketball teams, whoever wants it more often makes the difference. That may have been the deter- mining factor in yesterdays (Wednesdays) Halton Tier 2 final at Sheridan College, a matchup between squads that both went 9-1 during the regular season. Aquinas built an 18-6 halftime lead and then held on for a 37-24 victory over the Trailblazers, who eliminated the Raiders in last years regional semi- finals. We thought it would be a really close game, but we ended up want- ing it more than they did, said Aquinas player Kayla Celestini, the games top scorer with 19 points. Iroquois Ridge coach Al Samsa agreed. We didnt have the intensity at all, he said. Thats my fault. I need to have them ready to play in a big game. Aquinas forced Ridge into a lot of first-half turnovers as the Raiders built their early 12-point advantage. The Trailblazers turned up the defence themselves in the second half to go on an 11-2 run and nar- row the gap to 30-22 with three minutes left, but Aquinas salted the game away with a big three-pointer by Marissa Parsons.
