By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Basketball has provided the late Carol Ann Hamilton of Oakville with many opportunities and now her family is hoping to help others achieve the same in life. Her father and stepmother Glen and Lystra Hamilton are hosting a gospel concert to raise money to send children to camps where they will learn to play the same sport that their daughter excelled in. The Carol Ann Hamilton Junior Basketball Camp Fund annual fundraiser will take place on Saturday, Nov. 20 at Joshua Crossing Evangelical Missionary Church. Its very important for people to support us because in doing so they really are helping the kids, who probably wouldnt attend a basketball camp and were keeping Carols name and legacy alive by send- ing kids to basketball camp, said Lystra. Carol was an athlete who represented Canada at the worlds with the national basketball team, she played professionally in Europe and was drafted into the WNBA. She was also honoured both by the Town of Oakville and the Canadian government for her achievements. However, in 2004 she died from cervical cancer. In a letter sent out by the Hamiltons, they said, We keep Carols spirit and passion for life alive by giving to others. Basketball provided Carol with many oppor- tunities in life and we are now giving youth the chance to do the same things. In the past summer the fundraiser was able to send 15 youths off to basketball camp. The money pays for items such as shoes and equipment and pays for the camp costs. The Hamiltons said basketball camps help nurture and bring out the best in the children and helps build their self esteem. The event will be emceed by Denise Jones and will feature musicians Emilia Sadoawksi, Winston Dayal, Katrina Balascas, Fitz Aransevia and Hameed Shagg. The church is located at 3301 Trafalgar Rd. T he concert starts at 7 p.m. Adult tickets are $15, children under 12 tickets are $10 and children under five get in free. For more information, call 416-779- 4899. C H I R O P O D I S T J.
