Or so the new owner said about the recent incident of a person unintention- ally driving through the doors of the yet un-opened studio calling it a blessing. There was nobody there, the driver is okay. Nobody was hurt, he said of why this is a blessing. I was talking with the couple who own the Subway thats further down (in the plaza) and the lady said to me You cant get upset about this. I said I know its almost funny and she said, No, look at it as a blessing. Youre so pop- ular people are busting down your doors for you to open. She said just look at it as some- thing good. She said in her country, I dont know what country that is, people would pray for something like this to happen to their business. And so hes kept a positive outlook on the incident. Thew is opening the Bikram Yoga Studio at a plaza located at 177 Cross Ave. He began leas- ing the space this sum- mer and was going through the building permit work with the Town to renovate the space for a proper yoga studio. Then the incident happened. This person, who works at a restaurant down the way from us, is parking their car and instead of pressing the brake, they hit the gas. They drove through the front door and part of the wall, Thew said. But hes not worried about the damage. In the long run well get the doors replaced, the wall will be replaced and nobody was hurt. Think of it as people just really excited for us to open that theyre willing to help us with the dem- olition. Thew currently lives in Waterloo and was most recently a Bikram yoga instructor in Guelph. He stopped doing that job recently to focus on opening his own studio, which he expects will open this January and plans to move to Oakville once the studio is open. He said Bikram yoga is the original form of hot yoga. It is done at 105 degrees Fahrenheit with 60-80 per cent humidity. Its done in a hot room with humidity so that your body warms up faster. Youre able to get to a deeper stretch faster. As an example, when an ironworker is bending his metal or iron, he doesnt bend it cold. He heats it up to make it more pliable. Heating up a body in a hot room makes it more pliable, Thew said. The benefits are you get a lot of perspiration and you are able to detox your body through the perspiration and have a safer stretch. It works you from head to toe. Thew said he weighed 280 pounds at one time. He then started going to Bikram yoga classes and lost 100 pounds in six months.
