This new impoundment procedure will provide police with an additional tool to address impaired driving and suspended drivers, said Deputy Halton Police Chief Bob Percy. It will reinforce the conse- quences of these unacceptable behaviours con- tributing to road safety. For more information, visit www.mto.gov.on.ca. Impoundment not appealable Continued from page 1 An Oakville organization is urging local residents to join the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). The Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights (OCCPEHR) wants residents to join ICAN, which focuses on what it calls the roots of the nuclear weapons problem. This problem is the continued possession of nuclear weapons by a small minority of countries risking their use by design, accident, miscalculation or by terrorists and which also incite other coun- tries to become armed with the weapons. Nuclear weapons remain the greatest threat to humanity and to our environment and we must abolish them now in order to ensure future life on the planet, said Stephen Dankowich, founder and executive director of OCCPEHR. During the 24th annual Oakville Concert for Peace in January, OCCPEHR will host the co-founder of Project Ploughshares, Murray Thomson, as a keynote speaker. Thomson was the executive director of the Canadian University Service Overseas before he received the Order of Canada. The event will take place in the council chambers of the Oakville Town Hall on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. where the Oakville ICAN will be officially launched. To join the Oakville ICAN, people are asked to contact Dankowich or OCCPEHR chairperson Mervyn Russell by e-mailing info@oakvillepeacecentre.org or by calling 905-849-5501.
