One Sunday morning he sent me a simple note saying he was thinking of me. How many bosses would do that? His brother Neil, vice-president of Metroland, and Halton General Manager David Harvey have kept in close contact to make sure that I am kept up-to-date on what was going on in the media world a world I des- perately miss. And then I have the wonderful editorial team at the Oakville Beaver. How can I say thank you to the guys who shaved their heads to raise money for breast cancer research? Jon, Rod, Reg, David and Dominik all said farewell to their hair for the cause. It was deeply appreciated. On Sunday, I celebrated an early Christmas with my family as I my niece Laura and her boyfriend Kent are leaving soon on a trip of a lifetime to Peru. As I write this, tears are welling in my eyes. You see Laura has also taken care of me. One Monday, when I was quite ill, she took the day off work and spent it fetch- ing hot cups of tea and water bottles. She made me applesauce and mango salad and curled up beside me on the bed. She joined her sister, Heather, my other wonderful goddaughter, on the quest to find me the perfect wig. What could have been a distressing time turned into evening of much laughter. How can I pos- sibly say thank you? My brother, Mike, held my hand through three of the chemo sessions, my sister, Liz, among other things, helped with the house cleaning and drove me to doctors appointments. My brother-in-law, Mike, has helped with dog walking duties. Mom and dad have been with me every single day making sure their youngest was never alone. The tears are now falling faster as I think of my beloved husband of 28 years. He has, quite simply, been amazing. He has made me laugh and smile throughout this long process. He has also made me feel so special and loved beyond words. How lucky am I? Yes, cancer is a dreadful disease yet, some how, all the people that I am fortunate to know have made me feel very blessed. Merry Christmas Oakville and have a happy and healthy new year. Continued from page 6 Merry Christmas and a healthy new year Ring in the new year with Mayor Rob Burton and members of Oakville Town Council at the Mayors New Years Levee on Sunday, Jan. 2 from 1-3 p.m. in the South Atrium at Town Hall.
