BERRY, Peter Cushing Commander RCN, retired It is with deep sadness the Berry family announce the death of Peter Berry on February 13th, 2006. Peter was born in Shanghai on October 24th, 1923, and grew up in Rockcliffe Park, Ottawa. He was educated at Ashbury College, Lisgar Collegiate and Queen's University. He joined the Navy in 1944 as a RCN Volunteer Reserve Sub Lieutenant and served in HMCS Kootenay; in August 1945, he was appointed Lieutenant in the RCN. He served in numerous ships, attaining the rank of Commander and serving as captain of HMCS Algonquin before taking volunteer retirement in 1964. Peter had four great loves throughout his life; the Royal Canadian Navy, the game of squash, which he played competitively to the end, his family and the farm. Peter Berry is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Anne, his children Matthew, Frances (Nik), David (Fiona) and Michael (Lindsay) and grandchildren: Margaux, Nicole, Julia, Tobin, Christian, Jillian, Adam and Shannon. Visitation will be held at the Farm, 9690 Highway #25 on Thursday, February 16th, 2006 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A memorial service at Grace Church on the Hill, Forest Hill, Toronto will be held on Friday February 17th, 2006 at 4:00 pm and afterwards at 124 Park Road, Rosedale, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Milton District Hospital or Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
