Description
Richard Cullingworth, October 24, 1803-June 4, 1886 married Elizabeth Darby, June 19, 1804-June 18, 1866 in Yorkshire, England. Richard brought his family to Canada ca1840. Richard worked on the Adamson farm in Erindale on Dundas St. just west of Mississauga Rd., where his son Joseph Edward was born. Richard moved his family to what is now Winston Churchill Blvd., Mississauga, just east of the Ford plant for a short time and then to the Amos Biggar farm. Mr. Biggar's youngest daughter, Jemmima, never married but was given her own farm, Lot 20, Trafalgar, the north side of Dundas St., just east of the Sixteen Mile Creek. Sometime in the 1850's,the Cullingworths were asked to manage her farm and household. This was the Cullingworth home for over 50 years, until the death of Richard's son, Joseph. When "Aunt Jemmima" as the Cullingworth children and grandchildren called her, died, the land reverted to the Biggar family but she left her personal and household property to Joseph's wife, Mary Anne Cullingworth, as a token of her affection.

Richard Cullingworth and his wife, Elizabeth (Darby) are buried in the cemetery at St. Peter's Anglican Church, Mississauga Road and Dundas Street, Mississauga, Ontario. (In the Ontario Genealogical Society listings, this is the "Cosmopolitan" cemetery in Toronto Township, not "St. Peter's", because of the historic differences. There is no physical distinction.)
Notes
Jemmima Bigger, born September 9, 1826 died May 9, 1909, buried in Munn's Cemetery, Trafalgar, Ontario.
Richard and Elizabeth's son Joseph Edward and his wife, Mary Anne, were my mother's grandparents. Joseph Edward, born April 29, 1843 died March 29, 1916.
Mary Anne (Joyce) born March 11, 1863 died March 14, 1932, Both buried at Knox Presbyterian Church, Sixteen Mile Creek. Children: George Richard, Clare Edward, Ruth Irene (Powell), Allan Joyce, Hazel Vera Cullingworth.

A Town of Oakville Heritage Impact Statement from 2009 has good photographs of the interior and exterior of one of the "saltbox" houses on the property before it was demolished in 2009. http://www.oakville.ca/Media_Files/planning08Heritage_Impact_Statement_3079_Neyagawa_Boulevard_March_2009.pdf This particular house did not front onto Dundas and has a window above the front door so it is probably not the house the Cullingworths lived in on the same property, although of similar design.
Inscriptions
