There was more to it than a new office, he said. We got a more efficient set up that better accommodated our needs including a confer- ence room that we didnt have before. These renovations included turning, what Burton described as an underused councillors lounge, into the mayors office and a drop-in office, while another drop-in office was convert- ed into a medium-sized meeting room. Additional office space was also created and the previous mayors office was converted into a conference room. Were always full and we needed the room, said Burton, when asked about the addition of the meeting places. It also serves council when council needs to meet in camera. If we dont want to throw the public out of the council chamber, we can retire here, whereas we did not have a place to go before. Burton said he could not speculate on how often the meeting places within the mayors suite are used, but said they are used often with all councillors having access to them. The rooms are also used for the Community Leaders Roundtable Monthly meeting. Town staff at Town Hall are also permitted to hold meetings in them. Burton said he was not the first mayor to renovate the office of the mayor and council, with similar renovations taking place during for- mer Oakville Mayor Ann Mulvales time in office. If its a story now, why wasnt it a story before? he asked. When reached for comment Mulvale denied the comparison between these renovations and the mayors suite renovations, which took place in 2002 when she was mayor. She said her ren- ovations were part of an approved Capital Renovation created more efficent set up says mayor Continued from page 1 See Councillor page 4 MICHELLE SIU / OAKVILLE BEAVER TAKE A SEAT: The mayors cabinet, desk, chair and visitors chairs.
