According to Conservation Halton (CH) figures, the total amount of precipitation from March 1 to November 30 was 739 mm or 110 per cent of normal yearly rainfall. However, CH said the pattern varied considerably during the year, as June received 206 per cent of normal monthly rainfall with 149 mm, while August received only 42 per cent of the normal monthly rainfall, with 37 mm. It was a fairly normal year statistically, but we had some anxious moments with the low rainfall in August, as some of our stream flows were getting quite low. Fortunately we received some significant rain in mid-September and it was not necessary to take any action with regards to watering restrictions, said David Gale, watershed planner. This winter we are hoping for a typical amount of snow in the water- shed since a lack of snow fall during the winter can have a significant impact on stream flows and levels for the coming summer. With the onset of winter, Conservation Halton will only issue condition reports in the event of significant changes.
