Oakville Mayor Rob Burton presented Crime Stoppers of Halton program coor- dinator Sgt. Gary Gold and Crime Stoppers of Halton board vice-chair Gary McLean with a special letter of recogni- tion this month mirroring similar acts being undertaken by mayors and councils in communities throughout the Halton Region. Crime Stoppers Month will be official- ly kicked off on Jan. 17, 2011 with a spe- cial event at the Halton Regional Building. The theme of this years Crime Stoppers Month in Halton will be taking a stand against bullying, and will coincide with a program for local schools developed in cooperation with the Halton Regional Police Service and the boards of education. The guest speaker at the 7 p.m. event is Dr. Jean Clinton of McMaster University. Clinton is an internationally renowned child psychiatrist and a recognized author- ity on child welfare and childrens mental health. She indicates research has shown that bullying situations can impair the mental development of children.
