cademyin1856.HeservedintheBritishmilitaryfrom1858-1862andthenreturnedtoCanadaandworkedasphotographcoloristbutalsosketchedthewildernessandIndiantribalcommunities.Heco-foundedtheOntarioSocietyofArtistsin1872andmovedtoEnglandin1880.Overseas,hisworkgainedpopularity.VernerreturnedtoCanadaeverysooftentogainsourcematerial.ThereisahistoricalplaqueerectednearSheridanCollegeforhim.In1869FerrisLawrencedonatedhalfanacreoflandforSheridanMethodistChurch.Ferris'sdeathnoticeintheOrangevilleBannerin1913said..."oneoftheoldestresidentsoftheCountyofHalton,diedathishomenearSheridanonSaturdayattheripeageof84years.Mr.Lawrencewasbornwithinhalfamileofthefarmonwhichhediedandlivedinthevicinitypracticallyallhislife.""ThedeceasedwasprominentinChurchwork,waspublicspiritedandtookakeeninterestinallenterprisescalculatedtobenefitthecommunityinwhichheresided."SheridanNurseriesgetsits'namefromtheTownofSheridan.Howard&LaurieDunington-GrubbimmigratedtoCanadafromEnglandin1911andpurchased100acresinSheridanfromDanielGreenius.Theyweresomeofthefirstlandscapearchitectsinthecountry.Thenurseryoperatedthereuntil1987.In1877,Sheridan'sreacheditshighpointwithapopulationof100.WiththewideningofroadsandthebuildingoftheQEWmuchofSheridanwasdemolished.TodayallthatremainsistheSheridancairnhatwasconstructedin1986andthesilobesideit..HardyHouseinSheridan-1914BackLaneWilson
