The Acton Free Press Wednesday April By Wendy Thomson I bet youre having a ball with your husband away for a week my neighbor said What do you do and tried desperately to think of something daring and eyebrowraising have a bath every afternoon She chuckled Wow Thats really it up and suppose it does seem a little silly but my idea of having a good time is purely to drop all the halfbaked schedules 1 keep and do what I like whenever 1 feel like it To have a bath in the middle of the day for eight days running and to soak in it for an hour with a good book is my own version of a housewifes orgy And Im staying up till all do Rip is forever coming to sit in front of me gazing intently into my face seeming to be so hard to talk that it hours sometimes even to hurts to watch him Sue just sits drinking hot chocolate carousing I turn the radio on and carrying on that covers anything from doing the wash to pasting snapshots as- album to sitting on the front step with a dog on each side listening to the frogs chorus Usually Im in bed by nine as Gord has to be up at 5 Going to bed is a treat in itself Ordinarily by the time my spouse arranges his ax feet two inches kittycomer in the bed Im left with either the top lefthand third of the mattress or the lower third But this week have the whole bed to myself The first night 1 slept on the ade with my feet on the left the second night viceversa The next two 1 sprawled right the middle and tonight because IVe found my feet keep getting cold with no one put them on Im turning Gords side of the blanket wa up high and sneaking my feel whenever they start to chatter When do you suppose will someone make an electric blanket with a separate control for the bottom for people with perpetually cold Come morning when I wake with a start at with that horrible slept in feeling I can stick out tongue at the clock and go back to sleep for an hour Not sleep real just all sort of thinking nice thoughts and planning deeds Then a 52pound black bomb comes down the hall and onto the bed and stomach with a bound Sue the Coonhound pup just can I figure Goid has disappeared fcverv she insists that somewhere in The bed and she intends to dig him out she under the pillows the face of her daddy looks the door before back up the bill I thick Gord vm breadboard under kitchen counter and looks forlorn The housework is done in no time The bed takes only a minute to straighten since nobody to stretch the sheets two feet higher on the bed than they were meant to go Dishes Cut by about a thud Cleaning Cut by twothirds No matter how many times my husband tells me I have so much work to do because I m not systematic and organized 111 never believe him again Every day I sit in the middle of the gleaming expanse of polished floor and admire it for minutes But how can a wife be systematic about keeping it clean with someone using the kitchen as a welding shop to make snowplow blades lor the tractor and other little goodies along that line Once when I complained and asked if hed do thing like that in his mothers kitchen he and told me of the time he d a motorcycle there and it had backfired and filled the house with smoke By noon the house is all clean and tidy the kids arc all at school 1 have pork and beans planned foi supper and nothing MUST be done There are lots of things like to do and people I d tike to visit and stores Id like to browse in but when handed me the kes to the truck he left he commented that I d probably never be home at all So 1 ve restrained myself and have spent the past five days puttering around the house Besides the truck won go It been a nice week so far and the weekend should be even nicer when comes home To tell the truth though Im not looking forward to it in one sense The last time Gord was away I forgot to pack his tie clips and cufflinks That didnt go over too well so this time double checked on them before I locked the suitcase I just forgot to put his tics deputation protests charges A three woman deputation from Women Institute headed by Mis Cliff Hunter appeared at Monday nights meeting of council to express their concern bout increasing roadside reeve went on Councillor Ken Marshall backed the reeves statement I bought a hairton truck last week and t assure you its going to come under very senous consideration he added in a lighter vein Halfton trucks and station wagons are charged SO cents a load for dumping On the subject of roadside Utter Councillor Marshall reminded Mo Hunter there is a fine for anyone convicted of throwing garbage by the roadside and a reward for information leading to a conviction Whether we charge or not theres always so much garbage dumped by the roadside deputyneve Tom Hill pointed out Hunter alto
