Calf Club the Halton Beef Calf dub and the 441 Field Crop Club The results of these Achievement Days are as follows In the Holstefn Calf Club the top Junior calves were exhibited by first Charles MARY McGee of won the Jack Holmes trophy for grand champion dairy showman at the Fall Fair livestock show Russell Murray presented the awards on behalf of the donors Staff Photo 1 Burlington second Cathy Georgetown and third Bruce McGee RBI top senior calves were exhibited by first Mary McGee Norval second David R Georgetown and third Bob MacDonald Georgetown The top three showmen in this club were first Sandy Bennett Burlington second Paul Stewart RJl Hornby third Mary McGee Calf club In the 441 Jersey Guernsey Dual Purpose Shorthorn Calf dub the top three showmen were first Jane Nixon Norval two entries of barley with Joanne Wilson 3 Georgetown winning first prize and her brother Lome winning second Therewerefiveentriesol oats with David Taylor of 3 Georgetown placing first Ken Georgetown second Barb Brownridge R third Edward Bird Georgetown fourth and Ann McClure RR 3 Georgetown fifth The top three entries in this class are eligible to show in Erin Oct Interclub exhibits There were two junior fanner exhibits this year In the Inter- Club exhibit By a very narrow KEITH BAKER accepted the A Green Refractories Ltd Trophy for top herdsman from former George Barbeau at the fair Staff Photo Place on noxious list Fight to save Goldenrod fails In spite of a determined effort by Deputy Reeve Gordon Agnew of Nassagaweya to defend his colleagues on County Council backed a resolution to have Goldenrod put on the noxious weed list at the September meeting of County Council Mr Agnew told council medical research had proven that Goldenrod had no effect on hay fever He went further with his case noting that the Goldenrod was the last weed that bees used to collect pollen and said beekeepers benefited from the weed I see no justification for this at all I think It Is a beautiful thing In the fields he said adding that next thing people would be ob jecting to fields of timothy or alfalfa Georgetown Deputy Reeve Art Speight spoke of personal ex when be said he had suffered immensely from hay fever when he lived near a field with Goldenrod but bis suffering stopped when he moved away Re noted anything that could be done to alleviate suffering of people from the weed should be done went to the class A exhibit of the Junior Institute Second prize went to the class exhibit from the Acton Junior Institute The Agricultural Clubs had four exhibits The results were as follows Class A Halton Electric Class B Halton 4H Field Crop Club and Jersey Guernsey Dual Purpose thorn Calf Club Class C Calf Club SAFETY EXHIBIT There was one entry in the Farm Safety Council exhibit put In by the Hornby 441 It was Judged a B exhibit SILVER DOLLAR The 4H Silver Dollar com petition sponsored by the United Breeders Inc In cooperation with the Halton Agricultural Society was held at the Milton Fair Grounds on Friday Sept at There were five competitors eligible from each of the following counties Wellington Waterloo and Peel The minimum age limit was open only to member with a dairy calf These members were required to write an essay answer a quiz show their dairy calves and be Judged on showmanship All the contestants were required to exhibit thelr and be scored on showmanship at
