The Aclon Free Press Wednesday January B3 OUR READERS WRITE Distribute new Bell Christmas at Kelly Nursing Home Dear Sir The Christmas spirit at the Kelly Nursing Home could be summed up in two words Dignity and Happiness During the week Captain Strongltharm and the Girl Guides sang carols and presented a gift made by each guide to a resident two guides have grandmothers In the home The following afternoon Mrs Allen and Sunday school children sang carols ac companied by a real cutle playing a guitar another Johnny Cash and the remainder of the afternoon was spent socializing These children remind people the truth about latter years Is that quality is not a chronological affair there Is youth In the old and In the young Churchill choir echoed the Christmas charm also bringing memories of the late Stanley Former members of organizations were presented with gifts from Duke of Devonshire I Third Order of St Francis and Knox Presbyterian Church Trinity United Church deserves mention not only for their Christmas cheer but for the cheer they bring all through the year Thank you Mrs Shoemaker Sr Miss Dorothy Simmons and Mrs Helen Pickett Mrs Weir Milton Mrs Mary Mac Kay Hornby and Mrs Helen Robertson are appreciated not only for the Christmas gifts but more important their positive attitude toward wisdom and dignity of our older residents Mr Allen and Mr Miller representing the Club arrived with goodies for all the patients taking tune to converse with each person Individually which means so much to be recognized MrBraldaofBeardmoreandCo donated a huge Christmas assortment with a special greeting for Sam Hubble and wives of former employees Blue Springs Flower Shop Elsie for five huge which were a sight to behold was a conversation piece for both residents and visitors As we all realize Christmas Is the most Important day of the year but In our present culture Santa Claus is a must The Jolly old fellow arrived with a greeting for one and all giving each patient a gift and at feeling of participating In the festive season Thanks Margie Mc Ivor Yea the week before Christmas was with activity and as I am told good wine and champagne improve with age believe It is this way with our patients Thanks to the Medical Group for not only medical attention but psychological reassurance to all Acton Pharmacy deserves special mention for their efficient service and delivery sorry about the midnight deliveries 24 service Is a real asset In times of deep snow and a long loneway I also wish to express my appreciation to the Reliable Taxi for their concern in dealing with the residents from the Kelly Nursing Home The staff deserves a gold star for their devotion throughout the Season as their prime concern was to make Christmas 1970 one to remember All the consideration and devotion from the community reminds of Kennedys famous quotation Ask not what can do for you but what you can do for your country Kath Kelly directories Approximately copies of the new Bell Canada telephone directory will be distributed in Acton beginning this week an Increase of over distribution last year Bells community relations manager in said the multicolored cover is designed to encourage customers to consult the directory for telephone number information before calling the directory assistance operator Approximately per cent of the calls for directory assistance last year were for numbers In Ihe telephone directory he said New wrinkle Mr Denby said customers have another reason for looking In the book as well Bell has begun to include customers apartment and suite numbers In the directory listings This was started In cooperation with the post office in Ottawa as an aid to those who refer to the directory for mailing addresses Apartment and suite numbers will normally be added only when a directory listing Is revised because of a new street address or change In telephone number Reader offers bouquet Dear Sir As an reader of your paper although a little tardy with my greetings I congratulate all the staff and all those concerned with the production your paper It states the facts offers comments gives local news coverage and Its columns are open to ail The latter is something which all newspapers do not practice Still thats how people become millionaires and receive titles by keeping In the right circles So once again I say congratulations It Is papers such as yours that can make great contributions to the health and welfare of our great country Canada I am sir Yours very truly Andrew Welch Calls taxation reduction program bribe The Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario now on a fullscale program to bribe the citizens of Ontario into voting them back into power In the next provincial election and they are using the voters own money to do it am speaking of course about the so- called tax reduction program for the owners of farms Considerable money is being spent on the news media Informing people about this scheme even though the recipients have to do nothing at all to collect their money What Is most ludicrous and annoying about this whole scheme Is that the government will take money from the taxpayer deduct the cost of administration ana then return what is left to the taxpayer And all this is called local tax reform I sincerely trust that the lessons of this bit of charlatanism will not be lost on the voting public In the next provincial election Yours truly Alan Candidate WelljngtonDufferin At their regular meeting Monday Council Received a letter from Milton Parks and Recreation Committee requesting renewal of financial support for minor hockey players living in and using Milton facilities The letter also Informed council skiing and community swimming are part of the towns recreation program The committee hopes to eliminate nonresident fees In all sports Lost year council mode cash donations available to Milton Georgetown and Acton to help pay the of minor hockey players from the township using town facilities Decided to increase the number of mills for road expenditures from fl to 10 A recent roads study recommended the township set aside mills for roads Decided not to Join the Association of Mayors and Reeves ctetfif Apeak cut THIS PERMISSIVE SOCIETY By Rev A Walter Churchill Community Church Following the days of the Second World War the cry was raised by the more liberal elements of society that the younger generation be encouraged to fallow the course of selfexpression Such a course as is the case with any other way of life requires guidelines to keep it within the bounds of decency and common courtesy With the general practice of both parents being gainfully employed at some Job or other there was a loosening of the bonds of family ties which in the past had made the family a wellordered unit of society This developed eventually into a far too widespread breakdown of the recognition of authority and this has taken place all along the line Now It is considered quite the thing for people to bypass authority of any kind and to go their own way without regard to anyone else Yet as we have indicated on another occasion liberty is not licentiousness True liberty recognizes the need for the ob servance of guidelines or the following of certain laws Otherwise chaos must be inevitable result The rule of every man for himself and the devil take the hindmost results in disorder of the worst kind Selfexpression Yes but selfexpression which has regard for the rights and feelings of others Not the type of selfexpression evidenced by Gordon Sinclair some time ago on Front Page Challenge during an Interview with a truly wholesome young There Is always the need of the use of common courtesy You and I ought to be aware of this very prevalent fact that selfexpression has run riot In our time The advocation of the of government by violent means as advanced by some groups among us the hijacking of planes on an International scale the many cases of contempt of court the kidnapping of foreign diplomats to force governments to recognize the claims of revolutionary groups all these things are a natural outcome when carried to the extreme of selfexpression without the observance of guidelines to give order to mans way of life A recent press article informs us that the Board of Education of Metro Toronto has derided to allow the Gideons to continue to distribute copies of the Bible to public school students because so many parents expressed the desire that this be done That same article Indicated that It had considered banning such distribution because of the objection of a group led by June Callwood Yet this same feels that there Is greater need for folk In general to be concerned about the hippies and their problems How Inconsistent can one be Surely if there Is any source which encourages the spirit of the brotherhood of man that source is the Scriptures Why all this movement to get rid of that which has come down to us from the past After all past generations and discoveries have made their contributions to present day knowledge We one them our gratitude and respect Indeed we stand In their debt for we could not be as far ad vanced as we are without their efforts and sacrifices The present stands with one foot on the We are too inclined to do our own thing without consideration of what this means to our neighbour or society at large The attitude of so many among us Is Let us be free to do lust what we want regardless of anybody else So we have such presentations as Hair being acclaimed by many as quite the thing for these days of enlightenment And this In spite of the fact that it ridicules the older generation serves as a vehicle for the ad vancement of political problems that are not ours but our neighbours the United States and employs at very low pay a group of young people who are victimized at a very handsome profit by decidedly astute manipulators There are of course besides all this the frequent use of indecent tour letter words and the degrading of the human body Well might Puck of Shakespearian days exclaim What fools these mortals bel WELCOME SERVICE If you are new in town or know someone who is PHONE 8530805 Ma Shell hut pfn of jewellers I Elgin St ARE LIQUIDATING ALL WESTINGHOUSE PRODUCTS EVERYTHING MUST GOII
