to the benefits of regional government liberal leader Robert Nixon has stated our stand many times He outlined his proposed Department of Urban Affairs and Government at a recent policy conference More than a thousand provincial Liberals discussed the problems of municipal governments and the need for a coordinated regional approach to education housing etc A Liberal government in Ontario would table regional government legislation for one year after first reading to give local municipalities an opportunity to make their views known A Liberal government in Ontario would ensure that regional boundaries would be the same for the school boards conservation board and other local programmes You may recall that tho present government of Ontario was prepared to introduce different regional boundaries for education and regional government etc A Liberal government in Ontario would free local municipalities from repressive provincial controls Acton and other municipalities are strapped by an archaic property tax system and bankrupted by educational costs A government in Ontario would reform the municipal grant system to give Acton and other towns more autonomy A Liberal government in Ontario would stop the rlduculous Tory tax rebate programme which Is costing untold numbers of dollars to administer The Liberal party in Ontario has a very clear program for regional government and I have only presented a few of our policies here But I would be pleased to elaborate if your readers ask for more Information Yours truly David Butler Candidate Provincial liberal nomination East Murder FIGURE SKATING tests are coming up soon Toronto argument on quarry Final argument in the application to permit quarrying near will be heard by the Ontario Municipal Board at am Thursday Feb 18 Council was ad vised Monday The hearing will be in Toronto in the Ontario Municipal Board chambers Initial evidence in the hearing was taken last fall during three days of sitting at Brook- The hearing Is on an application by Cloverleaf Quarries for rexonlng from quarry holding to quarry on lands across from Mohawk Raceway The cost of seismograph checks over a 12 month period to measure the Intensity of blasting from township quarries would be prohibitive It was suggested at Council Monday The proposal had been made when Benson submitted correspondence between himself and the Minister of Mines after complaints about the severity of blasting at Campbellville Gravel The Minister suggested the township Investigate the cost of seismograph tests over the 12 month period The clerk reported there was only one major firm set up for the required seismograph reading and interpretation The cost of continual monitoring would be prohibiUve for he suggested The Department of Mines doesnt even do continual monitoring he noted I wish someone would catch the ball and quit passing it around Deputy Reeve Don McMillan opined as discussion wore on about blasting He noted the Minister reports the province has legislation pending Object to accepting road in poor condition Council objected to a plan to transfer one section of county road to the township during a council meeting Monday noting the road was in poor condition Deputy Reeve Don McMillan a member of the county road committee told members the county planned to transfer to the township the section of Five between the Third and Fourth line and a section of the Sixth Line north from Five The County would assume a section of road referred to as the Milton Heights road which Is the town line between and The deputy reeve told members the county would be tabling a bylaw for the changes at the next meeting it municipalities accepted the plan rieeve A deplored the plan She recalled the township had spent a great deal on the Milton Heights road and the lost time she had been up the Sixth Line it was in deplorable condition with wide cracks If theyre giving it back they should give it back in the same shape as the one theyre taking she declared I could see it costing us up to to put the Sixth line in condition Councillor Cal Mclntyre noted It was agreed to notify the county the township asked the transfer be deferred Estimates on the required work would then be obtained A SPECIAL THANKS To Everyone Who Made Our Opening A HUGE SUCCESS Your Response Was Overwhelming And Much Appreciated Thanks Again ACTON
