February students of Mr Ellis and Mr English classes went with their respective teachers to the St Lawrence Centre for the Arts to see Henrik Ibsen s An Enemy of the People Originally the trip had been planned for Friday February but due to the Ice storm and bad weather the trip had to be cancelled Arrangements were then made to go on the eleventh The play written by the Norwegian playwright Next week Full details and more pictures the torchlight parade and Miss Carnival contest next week Officials installed Sunday morning at St church the church wardens lay delegates and advisory board members were installed Harold Denny is rector warden Don Lindsay peoples warden G Strongitharm deputy warden Mrs J and H Denny are lay delegates to synod with Mrs V as substitute and the advisory board members are Dorothy Cunningham Jack Creasy Vic Brlstow John Last David Hunter Jens Laustsen John Hirkosz an Jim Ibsen has in these times of pollution a very relevant theme original play was inspired by an article the author read in a newspaper about a doctor In a small town who had been pilloried by the locals for attempting to improve a local Spa all in opposition to economic interest The play was adapted for the performance to the situation on the Canadian scene today Saskatchewan Getting The setting was a small Saskatchewan town which as a centennial project had undertaken the construction of a man made lake In three years the lake had become a health hazard with local Industry dumping waste into the streams that emptied into the lake Dr Thomas Stockman had investigated and confirmed the danger and wanted to start a campaign promoting a clean up of the little resort He faced the hypocrisy of the editor of the local paper local business men and the outright animosity of the mayor his own brother for threatening the economic stability of the town and Its people And so the play continued Worthwhile trip Judging by comments heard after the play it seems that everyone felt the trip to Toronto had been well worth the eitra effort needed to make the journey in the evening instead of the afternoon as originally planned It is interesting to note that as an added attraction to our trip many observant individuals were rewarded with the sight of Rudolf Nureyev the Russian Ballet star as he walked by our bus as we were getting off Mr Mas dancing as guest artist at the Centre with the Australian Ballet m The Mutual Life ROBERT S HART Agent 341 Orville Road Acton Bus 4164513460 Res 5198531527 ARCHITECT DONALD SKINNER Stavebank Port Credit 416 Residence 519
