appointment has pleased the couple very much They have hoped for many years for a full time posting They have been happily ac cepting words of congratulation from many friends in the Acton Acton get organized It takes a magician to pull a rabbit out of a hat but any one of us can let the cat out of the bag by Father V J Morgan Pastor St Josephs Church In the Gregorian calendar of 365 days given to us by Pope St Gregory the Great a certain tlmecan be should Be and Is allotted for working sleeping eating and for recreation and amusements There are many wise sayings In reference to these allotted times All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy He who works well sleeps well Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise A good way to appeal to man Is through his tummy and A little fun now and then is relished by the best of men The allotment of different times was intended by God when He created the world and the things of the world for mans use and benefit It is indicated in Holy Scripture one of theseven days was allotted for rest and It only right to assume since Ho was God the Creator and we the created that this one day was allotted for us to give Him adoration reparation thanksgiving and petition In a special manner This day in the old dispensation was known as the Sabbath In the new dispensation as the Sunday Some may wonder why the change from the last day to the first day of the week In our special allotment and duties to God because God Is God always was and always will be because of the great events that took place on the Sunday because Our Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead on Easter Sunday and proved Himself God because the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles on Pentecost Sunday Therefore Sunday was not intended for unnecessary work and I repeat unnecessary work Some work is necessary mothers have to prepare meals on Sunday railway employees policemen firemen are necessary for certain shifts of work on Sunday but not at all times Now what about the allotment of time for sports and amusements on Sunday Are all these forbidden Not at ail as long as they are clean moral amusements and do not Interfere In that for which the Sunday was specially Intended Unas been the practice and custom from time Immemorial that church service has been allotted for Sunday either In the morning and the evening and some times In the afternoon Therefore the allotment of time for other things should not overlap or interfere with this time First things first our Spiritual assignment Is even more Important than our material assignment because It pertains to our eternal salvation Today the world Is teeming over with all Some promoters have no regard whether It interferes with church service so long as It brings them the mighty dollar or satisfies the whims of youth If anyone has a right for this wrong to be righted it Is the clergy of every denomination together with good fathers and mothers who want to bring up their children In the fear and love of God and good citizens of our beloved Canada Therefore together we appeal In a kindly manner to those who are Interested In youth amusement and sports or promoters of to have them but not at a time when they Interfere with Sunday service or that most sacred week known as Holy Week Holy Week Is that one week of the year the week preceding Easter Sunday which commemorates the passion the sufferings and even the death of our Lord and Saviour Jesus that was offered to God the Father for our redemption The week was allotted for us to think of Christ being scourged spit upon mocked crowned with thorns falsely accused made to carry a cross nailed to that cross and finally dieonthatcrosa for us During this week clergy of all denominations have special devotions and services bring in to our parishes special guest speakers to bring home to us those sad events that Christ suffered for us and to aid us In our preparation for a glorious triumph In His Resurrection on Easter Sunday Surely this week of special holiness should not be Interfered with or marred with amusements Surely this one week is too sad since It has relation to us to be celebrated by sports and amusement Surely SI weeks of six days has sufficient time allotted for amusements and sports By Cathy Thirteen very enthusiastic 4H members met at the Acton this u i year a spending three week holiday in Switzer- you now know what I am ad vocating in this article may I pass a compliment to fellow clergy now They are advocating the same thing as myself by saying I am sure they all love good clean moral sport in Its proper place and at the proper time And you Investigate their youth the vast majority loved to play the games sports whether it was baseball lacrosse hockey handball cricket or what have you As or myself I loved to play baseball lacrosse and hockey and had the pleasure at school of playing with some who later became prof esslonal players In the L but was never fast enough to be in their class Even as clergymen there are some who will still try to find time to play a good game of some sports whether it be bowling curling baseball or hockey There are others who may not play the game but encourage it and sponsor It But all sports In Its proper time and place Congratulations Rev Gentlemen Two teachers resign Aug Mrs Sandra Fleischer and Mrs Ort both
