TOWN OF ACTON AUDITORS REPORT To the Members of Council Inhabitants and Ratepayers of Town of Acton We have examined the 1970 financial statements of the Corporation of of Acton and Its local boards which ore listed on the attached Index Coir examination included a general review of the accounting procedures and such tests of accounting records and other supporting evidence as we considered necessary In the circumstances In our opinion these financial statements present fairly the financial position of the corporation of the Town of Acton and its local boards as at December 31 1970 and the results of their operations for the year then ended in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted for Ontario municipalities applied on a basis consistent with that of the preceding year The Apeak cut Free Proas Wednesday May 12 Toronto Canada March 30 1970 Licence Number STATEMENT OF REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE for the year ended December Revenue Taxation Contribution from other with thewaywcrunthisworld Mass production designed to saUsfy the ever growing needs and fancies of an ever growing population has left us with a mass of problems one of which is mass pollution What is the reason that something potentially so good has turned against us It does seem production has become an uncontrollable monster We cannot do without it anymore It is the only way we know to saUsfy the massive needs of our evcrexpandinf economy At the same time of on us for its own existence by creating new needs in our minds by a constant barrage of ads and commercials through the mass media I surest it t mass production itself that is the villain but it is the way we use it How do we sit 069 54 049 79 306 539 26 11570 511 390 38745 I d like to distinguish between four aspects of mass production producer product production and consumer No doubt aspects could be found but I don mean to be exhaustive here Ideally I submit the aim of mass production is that the producer serve the needs of the consumer by products which fill those needs To a certain extent this happens of course in our society or else the consumer simply wouldn t buy But by and large service is not the prime motive of production any more If it ever was The prune motive for mass production Is profit and that is wrong as a prime motive It prostitutes the real purpose of mass production from serving others to serving self ITiis same fatal flaw In the producer is also found in the consumer who wants if possible something for nothing This flaw accounts for lack of real concern for the welfare of the worker it employs for the product it supplies by business and for the consumer it is supposed to serve Production methods are overwhelmingly product oriented instead of worker oriented often making the worker simply an extension of a machine And any apparent concern for the worker most of the time only a means of getting better production out of him Deprived of any initiative and freedom within such a production machine and within a system of rigid union job classifications the worker loses all sense of responsibility and Integrity His work and the product he makes do not really interest htm In many ways he is worse off than a medieval slave relating as he docs to dumb machines more than to his follow workers No wonder production efficiency and quality suffer No wonder the only satisfaction he seeks is as high a pay as he can along with working conditions which are as favorable as possible tor the consumer bargains and discounts are a constant obsession Instead of an of fluent and iblc means of transportation he wants a show piece of pomp and power for instance Is it any surprise that such per v erst attitudes turn mass production potential blessing to mass pollution a real bane What we need alone with a good i leanup of our environment Is a clean up of ourselves by the blood of Christ and a new start the renewing power of His Holy Spirit Wt need to learn anew the concepts of service and of stewardship in the area of production as well as consumption God is concerned with our motives the way we work what we make and use And don t say thit such j change Is impossible Since Easter is possible with God 1970 J 37 71041 22 474 1 168 352 36 177 472 MAPLE AVENUE BAPTIST CHURCH Ave Georgetown Pastor Rev Robert C Here is our sincere invitation to the firnlly to
