planted with an idea of permanence The life of a well grown evergreen is to years It is best removed then and replaced with healthy young stock Evergreens in foundation planting often become too large for the allotted space Light pruning generally after growth is completed each year will help keep these plants confined An additional benefit is longer life and more attractive appearance Remove about half of the year s growth Be careful not to cut too far back to expose stubs the dead or offcolor foliage which may be in the center of the plant Do It regularly To maintain low growing evergreens such as junipers yews and cedars cut the branches back to healthy new shoots This can be done in mid August or early September For formal pruning to retain the graceful shape of shrubs like junipers cut back to a young branch that is growing out of a larger branch to cover the pruning cut This must be done regularly through out the season until growth is completed Tree evergreens such as Scotch Pine must be pruned before the end of June to control their growth If your upright Pickyourown time in berry field again I time Is here gian and fresh tasty berries arc now picked on many farm in this
