Cross Wednesday- October Halton 4H members receive awards Awards night for It members of Haltons agricultural clubs on Friday evening was another gala affair when recipients and donors of trophies a host of awards and moms dads and friends gathered In St Pauls United Church in Milton for the annual ceremony The evening signals the end of another suc cessful year of work in the county During the past year members enrolled in projects and completed of them for an per cent completion These inures indicated a rise in membership In clubs this year an increase in projects taken and a decrease in the per cent completion over last year figure Most outstanding Outstanding 4H club member in for was who received the J K trophy The Pork Producers trophy for the most outstanding with under 12 projects completed went to Ken McNabb while Peter May won the Claude trophy as the outstanding first year 4H member Premier 4H club of the year wan Field Crop Club Grace won the secretary of the year award In their opening remarks agricultural representative Henry Stanley and his assistant Hugh Cook congratulated all club members for their excellent work during the year thanked the leaders for donating their time assistance to the program A special thanks was also extended to the families who hosted Ihc delegates In Wisconsin and Maryland this summer and to Mrs Hncl Held who accompanied the Stewart President of the 4H Club Council There were over in attendance Honor Const Tom Penrice on Burlington transfer Officers of Milton OPP and many friends from Milton and areas attended a stag and presentation for OPP Const Tom held at the Sportsmens Association club house near Milton Friday Const Penrice was recently transferred to the No District Headquarters in Burlington where he is specializing in identification work He had been with the Milton detachment for nine years coming to this area from On behalf of his friends Const Classes on weed control are offered By tab rooks A weed control school to deal mainly with factors influencing the effectiveness and use of herbicides in modern crop production is being planned for farmers in the TorontoHamilton urea The Ontario Department of Agriculture and Food sponsored school will run on the five Tuesdays of November The course will be given at the Woterdown Lions HaU in the afternoon and at the Brampton Agricultural Office in the evening The same school is held in the two locaUons to accommodate a larger number of interested crop producers Jim presented a stereo tape deck along with the good wishes of fellow officers and others who attended the evening Const Penrice said he hopes to continue living in Milton He is active in Emmanuel Baptist Church and is a Scout troop leader Until his transfer Const had been serving as prevention officer of the Milton detachment Const Jim has been appointed to that position since Const ices transfer Wright transfers Another veteran with the Milton detachment Const Carmen Wright recently received promotion to the rank of Corporal and a transfer to Port Credit detachment Cpl Wright has been with the OPP almost IB years starting in and spending 14 the Millonbased force Unit covers North Halton Port Credit handles work on the Queen Elizabeth and High ways and in the area west ol Metro Toronto It is a larger force than Miltons with a Staff Sergeant six Corporals and men has a platoon of seven men working with him His promotion became ef fective last June Fellow officers of the Milton detachment also held a stag and presentation in his honor He plans to stay
