Press Wednesday November 3 OUR READERS WRITE Students protest atomic test blast Acton Free Press Acton Ontario Dear Editor We some students of Acton District High School wish to take a stand on an Issue of concern to all Canadians We feel that the atomic test blast on Island could endanger the environment of the West Coast of North America We feel that a fivemegaton bomb blown 6000 feet beneath the earths surface could cause disturbances such as atmospheric pollution tidal waves as far away as Japan earthquakes earth tremors and endanger the ecology of the surrounding area 1 is time for the people of Acton to take a stand to take action Sign the petitions coming to your door get Involved Something has to done and with your support something can be done Sincerely yours The Students of Acton District High School Its a very handsome pavement History never repeats itself In 1914 the following appeared in the Clevelnnd Motorist Are other places in this more modern day similarly affected They took a little gravel And they took little tar And various Ingredients Imported from afar They hammered it and rolled it And when they went away They said they had a pavement That would last for many a day But they came with picks and smote it To lay a water main And in time they called the workmen To put it back again To run a railway cable They took it up once more And later put it back again Just where it was before They took it up for conduits To run the telephone And then they put It back again As hard as any stone They took it up for wires To feed the electric light And then they put it back again Which was no more than right Oh the pavement full of furrows There are patches everywhere Youd like to ride upon it But its seldom that you dare Its a very handsome pavement A credit to the town Theyre always digging of it up Or putting of it down Yours truly George Harrap From the editors desk Continued B2 to decide but the effects of the OMB decision will affect village residents for many years to come And Eden Mills Residents were told by Professor that the sewage system would a serious environmental effect on the quality of water that flows through the village The engineer said that was nonsense If there are any problems with water in Eden Mills it would be the responsibility of the Ontario Water Resources commission to clean It up declared Mr Hopkins There genuine concern at Eden Mills that the sewage effluent could ruin the village life stjle which residents wont to preserve at all costs Meanwhile a decision by the OMB to further off than ever because proceedings could not be finished in the allotted two days A few press boners prove how devastating a typewriter can be From the Times The orchestra was rather weak in the bras section Said the New Seattle Tribune He was an engaging small dog said an observer with a curly tail and friendly smile Or this from the Charlotte News Unpleasant smoke that sometimes arises when cooking hot cakes can be avoided by tying some salt in a bag and rubbing the girdle with this instead of greasing it Our men In Milton said that radio reports of Halloween celebrations getting out of hand In the county town were exaggerated although gangs of youths did require the mayor to read the Riot Act in the early hours Sunday morning Smoke bomb3 fireworks and broken windows were all part of the destructive urge to make the police chief look bad according to our informant Police knew advance they were In for trouble and recruited people with radio transmitters to assist them in policing the town Unfortunately all the precautions prevent windows being broken in the town hall court house and some downtown stores Events there show that no one needs to feel smug about manners and morals in their own community One destructive night like Saturday can ruin a reputation for stability and sanity built up through years of observance of All Hallows Eve Alter months of construction work High way from Acton to Ospringe Is passable and the short route to Highway Hie road is like elevated expressway riding high over galleys and hollows that once made it the best roller coaster ride In this part of the country Engineers elected to elevate the highway rather than blast through hills and knolls Tills has altered the appearance of the road considerably so that it is almost like travelling an unknown When the link is completed with paving It should be a busy road especially as a connecting link to the north A newlywed talking to his pretty wife asked How are we going to kiss goodbye over the telephone To
