Sabres on guard for Fergus green machine Junior hockey officially returns to Acton Sunday after a nine year abscencfl when Acton Sabres take on the highlyrated Fergus green machine at the community centre at 1 30 Although the newlyformed Sabres have already played two home games their South Central A Junior league schedule team officials decided to postpone the official opening ceremonies to coincide with the first visit of the Fergus team Sabres play In Bradford tonight Wednesday and in Fergus Friday night Acton and Fergus have been archrivals In Hockey lacrosse and baseball for years M Whiting Halton West M Hon George Kerr and Mayor are expected to officiate at the opening ceremonies which get under way at 1 half an hour prior to game time It la hoped the Acton Citizens Band will also be able to take part in the ceremonies Present Another highlight of Sundays gala opening will be official presentation of a ISO bond to young Robin Inscoe who selected the name Sabres for the team In a contest last spring As an opening game special admission prices have been cut In half For this game only prices will be cents for adults and 25 cents for students Public school children accompanied by an adult will be admitted free Sabres have won only one of their first three league games but their losses were by narrow one and two goal margins Fergus have a record not including last nights game In Draw crowd The green machine rolled over Schomberg in their first game but dropped a decision to Bradford In their home opener in Fergus Friday night Fridays game attracted a crowd lions juveniles dropped a decision In New Hamburg the same night Saturday afternoon Firefighter bantams doubled the score on New Hamburg after novices and Mens bowed to New Hamburg by and scores respectively All five Acton teams appeared disorganized at tunes Midgets and juveniles went into their games with only two practices under their belts New Hamburg novice pet wee and bantam teams all had the advantage of having played three previous games Captain Steve potted both Acton goals in the 1 midget victory Rick Bonnette played a steady game In goal Irwin was the lone lion marksmen In the Juvenile game Diminutive Dan McGlUoway who shared chores with newcomer Bob Gray injured his hand and may be out of the lineup for several weeks John Hansen paced Firefighters bantams to their win with
