The Acton Free Press Wednesday February 1972 Mr Mrs Harry Bailey married for 60 years At a time when too many couples are reaching frantically for release after only a very short span of marriage two very dear citizens continue their life style as one brimming with love and respect cherishing their hours spent together during the years of their nuptial tie Mr and Mrs Harry Bailey of Main were married at on date of Thursday February 1912 with minister Rev F Cameron officiating As a young westerner from Manitoba Harry Bailey had moved to Toronto with his family in 1902 and then spent a great part of his boyhood living with an uncle in Rockwood in a house once situated beside the home of the late Edgar Harris on the crest of the Valley Road Hill He talks about many happy adventures with Edgar and other old time 60 YEARS married are Mr and Mrs Harry Bailey of Main St They were wed in in 1912 and lived in Toronto and Georgetown before settling here Photo by Lorraine during his stay in the village Florence Wheeler Bailey was a girl and after their the couple went to Toronto where they lived for three years before taking up residence in their own home In Georgetown in Fiftyfour years later when looking for a smaller house more adaptable to their needs they found one In and are now quietly contributing to the friendliness and congeniality of this village A retired electrician Mr Bailey and his wife have lived extremely active years Mr Bailey was an avid gardener in Georgetown and his wife Is a veteran member of the Rebecca Lodge Icing message Last Thursday afternoon a mammoth cake was presented to the happy couple at the m ting of the Sunshine Club on which was inscribed in gay Icing decor Anniversary Congratu During the past week they received nume congratulatory letters and phone calls from their many friends extending best wishes for such a wonderful lifetime achievement Reception here On Saturday afternoon from 2 to 3 m members the Rebecca in Georgetown catered to a reception and Open House to which guests came from Dunnville Toronto Bramaleo Georgetown and to honor them The lodge hall was gaily decorated with bouquets of mums roses carnations and a variety of other seasonal flowers again reflec ting the esteem and popularity of the Baileys It been a wonderful lifetime say the charming couple who enjoy people and cordially encourage visitors to drop in any time Situated on the top the Main Street hill just next door to the old lute the Baileys are pleased with their Rockwood location with its rustic backyard viewing Harry Bailey has recall of many changes in the village from when he was a boy but since their move here in 1969 they are happy to have arrived and look forward to many more good years Reginald Rudd dies Feb 7 in 86th year MRS Reginald Rudd passed away at St Joseph Hospital on Monday February in year The funeral and committal service was conducted at the Wall Chapel of the Lee and Constance Funeral Home on February Born at Arkell in he spent his early years helping father Wm Jas on his farm near Eden Mills specializing In Devon cattle raising A bricklayer by trade he helped in the construction of many Important district buildings in and the surrounding area including some homes In Rock wood the last of which was the present home of Mr and Mrs Root which he completed before his partial retirement From 1917 until 1921 he took up farming in the Eden Mills area and lived in from 1922 until 1927 He later moved Into and then into Guelph Helped others An active member of the Paisley Memorial United Church he devoted a great deal of his time to helping the sick He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and was also an avid sports fan and athlete playing carpet ball on the team which won the Schofield Cup In 1912 and 1913 He was a prominent road racer and an active member of the Royal City Running Club Reg Rudd is survived by his wife the former Martha Jane Marshall whom he married In 1912 three daughters Mrs F India of Nap a nee Mrs A Helen of Roxboro Quebec Mrs R Lois Calvert of Brampton and a son Willard of Belleville Also surviving are nine grandchildren three great grandchildren and two
