Provincial Police investigated general occur rences ranging from the recovery of a stolen car to complaints re a vicious dog A Toronto man was appre hended in Acton after the car he was observed driving was reported stolen The accused will be appearing in Provincial Court in the near future to answer to charges of theft and driving while disqualified Two youths were charged with Causing a Disturbance after an officer observed them wrestling on a public street and using obscene language Other occurrences Investigated included one report of trespassing a domestic assault a request for assistance and a report of malicious damage There were four motor vehicle collisions during the reporting week One of the accidents resulted in minor injuries to a local resident The driver of one of the vehicles involved In the personal injury accident has been charged with Impaired Driving The other three collisions resulted In property damage only Respect property A number of complaints regarding property damage have been received at the police office When walking to ana from school children are often preoccupied with play and do not realize when they are invading private property Europe to study latest tanning techniques and developments The mission organized by the Ontario Department of Trade and Development will visit selected tanneries in Italy Switierland Germany and France ending the three week visit at the British Leather Manufacturers Research Association headquarters in London England Eight Canadian tanning firms representing per cent of Canada tanners and per cent the Ontario industry will take part in the mission particularly of interest as well as the study of new European tanning techniques will be pollutioncontrol development in Europe The mission will meet with the Ontario Water Resources Commission after the trip to discuss pollution control developments The group led by Robert Shelley of the departments Technology section trade and industry federal riding Liberal nomination from sitting M P John Morison on the second ballot Monday night at a raucous nominating meeting attended by well over at Burlingtons Central Arena Morison a insurance agent won the seat for the Liberals in federal elections in and 1968 He first contested the seat unsuccessfully In 1962 McGuiness received votes to for on the second ballot which was completed shortly before midnight The two polled an identical total of votes on the first ballot A third candidate in the race former Burlington mayor Lloyd Berryman received only votes on the first ballot eliminating him Following his elimination Berryman threw his support behind but those who supported him on the first ballot divided their votes between McGuiness and Morison Congratulates winner When meeting chairman Dennis president of the Hamilton Mountain Liberal Asso finally arm tin ced McGuiness had won Morison climbed to the platform to congratulate him then proceeded to the microphone 1 suppose if I vc been jubilant In victory before I should be calm in defeat now he said hope you 11 take Norm on to his second victory in the election Later when asked by reporters if he would support McGuiness In the campaign replied Well I expect so Ive been a Liberal all my life The elections the main thing He declined to say anything about his own personal plans for the future McGuiness the happy victor thanked all his supporters and asked for the support of the entire association in the election campaign 1 nope youre all as happy as am tonight he said The Job ahead us is quite clear We have here had not expected the contest to go past two ballots but a source close to the successful candidate revealed he had expected a fourth candidate would be nominated from the floor Nominate candidates nomination All candidates and their nominators were Interrupted repeatedly by hecklers throughout the large crowd speaks McGuiness told the meeting he believes in getting people involved in
