firefighters called to the home of Ml Arthur on the First line of lsqueMiig north of Highway to snuff out small grass fire Some when the writer of this article was confined to hospital he felt compelled to express to a young Yugoslav Canadian citizen who shared a room with him his feelings with regard to a lack of orderliness on the part of some of the nursing staff In charge of the ward In which he and his fellowpatient were situated He used the phrase organized confusion to describe his own estimation of the matter much to the amusement of the younger man The same statement might be made of international and national affairs as well as of social conditions in general We have anti this and that attitudes everywhere today The result is that such movements as Women freer abortion law groups the setting up of homosexual societies and so on ad infinitum are the recognized order or disorder of the day depending on which side of the issues one takes Talk about a permissive society How permissive can you get and to what end We talk today a great deal about the generation gap end with good reason No matter how much we should like to sidestep the problem It remains and continues to grow among us Of course It simply points up the fait that inaplte of all our claims to progress in matters of education we can be very stupid when it comes to applying our knowledge in a practical way and this is the only way in which it can be of benefit to anyone The recent argument In issues of the Acton Free Press over the local system of imparting education to our teenagers is a case in point I believe that the word argument Is the proper term to use in this connection because the participants went beyond the limits of reasoned discussion The outcome of it all was that charges were laid by older people against youth In general that are not justified and similar remarks made by the younger element against older people that ore Just as unfounded For instance the older generation is found guilty of causing all the pollution that exists In our nation and world to day Certainly they have made their contribution In the past but the present generation la doing the same It seems to me that there is room for the pot to call the kettle black as the old proverb runs Each generation is guilty of failing somewhere along the line and the older and the younger folk are still far from guiltless Just take note locally aa to how many people leave the motors of their cars running when they atop to get the mail or drop Into a store to do business Sometimes the time lapse is five minutes or more Yet we are forever decrying pollution Note who the offenders are and you will discover that the drivers of these vehicles belong to every age group of people who are licensed to drive To the younger people we might also address these words of advice Undoubtedly you are the most privileged of any generation of youth when it comes to the matter of education but remember every generation of youth In the past was more privileged in this regard than any generation before It The knowledge available to youth today has been amassed for their good by a thousand generations of the past It has not been acquired only by this generation of youth Some years ago a minister was talking with a father about his son In the course of the conversation the minister made this remark should be a better man than you are When the father looked at him in a questioning way the minister continued Well he He will have more opportunities than you had as a boy Each generation of youth should be better than any previous generation because of the advancement made by mankind in the past It behooves youth to disparage altogether the views of their elders After all experience counts and while the shortcomings of their elders are wide and varied so also arc those of youth Mr and Mrs Chas visited with Mr and Mrs Cordon Park and family at over the weekend and attended the Centennial dinner and
