of the sudden death of Margaret Maggie Davidson a lifelong resident of the district Her keen enthusiasm friendliness and helpfulness had endeared her to many over a span of seven decades Maggie and Bert Davidson were possibly one of the best known couples in the area farming for years near town and active in many community events Mr Davidson survives at their recentlybuilt retirement home on Churchill Also remaining are a son fosterdaughter Lillian Marshall sister Mrs Arthur Griffin Acton brother William McArthur of Erin township five grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren She was Street Diocesan meeting here on Thursday In honor of their centennial year St Parish is hosting the diocesan meeting of Anglican Church Women The meeting begins tomorrow Thursday with Eucharist followed by lunch and business meeting Mrs Jennings of the Department of Secretary of State and Citizenship will be speaking in the afternoon on culturalism Her funeral at the Rumley- funeral home was thought to be one of the largest ever held there Her minister the Rev A H McKenzie conducted the service Monday afternoon May Members of the Golden Age club attended in a body Mr Davidson is currently the clubs president Pallbearers were Howard Harold Harry Murray Bill Dobbie Clarence Denny and Wallace Flower bearers were Fred McArthur Robert Campbell Fred Kingsmill Bob and James Van Fleet Interment was in cemetery Mrs Davidson had not been in the best of health for a few days but died very unexpectedly at home on Friday May She was born in Erin township on June daughter of Sarah McArthur and Angus She attended Brisbane and Peacock schools She and Mr Davidson were married December in Erin township celebrating their golden wedding anniversary seven years ago Farmed The Davidsons farmed actively on the second and third lines of township for over half a century They were always involved in community activities their genuine Interest and concern for others backed by good health and liveliness They were both active in the Agricultural Society over many years and were just tapering off some of their activities at fair tune She was a member of the ladies division busily setting up exhibits while Bert was in charge the hall She was a life member of Knox church Womens Missionary Society and a member of the Ladies Aid She was also a life member of Womens Institute She shared her husband activities In the Golden Age club Quilting was a special hobby and she also enjoyed writing poetry She frequently contributed poetry or choice bits of prose to the Free Pres3 and had an excellent memory for identifying the faces in some of our old pictures Mrs Davidson will be sadly missed in many circles Three baptized Baptized on Mothers Day at the United to publish the Ontario weekly newspaper The purchaser is W E Bill Doole of Terra longtime publisher of the weekly Brampton Conservator and its successor the Brampton Dally Times The Advocate change of ownership Is effective July 1 Charlie Hull associated with the Advocate since his printer devil I apprenticeship days in 1942 will devote his full time to other business interests During the years Charlie has turned his hand to every phase of the newspaper operation and is equally at home in front office or back shop In news advertising and accounting his Girl Friday has been his wife Freda Bill retired two years ago from the Thomson organization which operated the Brampton newspaper He has since been with the faculty of Journalism at the campus of Sheridan community college Couldnt stay away I just couldn stay away from the weekly newspaper business my first love Bill said and particularly fond of this part of Ontario I hope to devote some spare time to conservation ef forts and will continue as ctmirman of the Terra and District Preservation Committee During Bills editorship the Brampton Conservator captured the Mason Trophy emblematic of the best allround weekly in the largest a new plant and revived the Advocate Wellington Hull was one of the most active and versatile pioneer businessmen in the community He served as magistrate justice of the peace and agent built the village dam which still bears his name and was identified with the construction of several homes and buildings He owned a farm or two and a butcher shop But a newspaperman he was not so he lured John Houston as editor- printer Houston managed the Ad vocate until when he moved to Mio Michigan James Gale succeeded turn and remained on the job until November Meanwhile in April 1907 Roy Hull Charlies father commenced his career as a printer and in March took over the Advocates ownership from his father Roy who still lives Erin retired as publisher on November at which tune son Charles succeeded him Corey Herring ton Joined the staff on March 1965 as an experienced printer with service on the Georgetown Herald Peel Gazette and Charters Publishing Co He brought with him his national periodical The Feather Fancier which serves breeders of fancy poultry pigeons and other specialty lines Mr a former Acton resident has purchased the commercial printing end of the business which will produce The Advocate His mother Mrs Delia and four married sisters live In Acton including Mrs Gordon Bell Mrs Lloyd Robinson Mrs Jack Mellor and Mrs Jean McMullen Also on the staff Is George Ware previously with
