The Acton Free Press Wednesday May 31 A new world of education revealed at open house by Corle Maxwell A trip through the world of education made travelling pleasant at last Wednesdays Open House at Acton High School Tie evening activities began In the gymnasium with some younger students from M Bennett School singing and skipping around the auditorium Shelley Roy who teaches these children under the assistance program at the high school led them in a few bars of Jesus Loves the Utile Children followed by The Candy Man I Wanna Live and finally Be Kind to Web Footed Friends Following this presentation by the Student Assistance Program Mrs Skoropad and the girls taking home economics presented a fashion show which featured everything from formals to bikinis Ac this fashion parade were slides and music of different spots around the world where students had travelled French revue The Revue en Francals featured a typical French cafe as a setting Anita Thibodeau Nancy Abram and Diane Frank accompanied by Noble on the piano sang La Vie en Rose immediately after the cafe occupants had finished the last chorus of Mon Pays But what is a French cafe without the CanCan The bar girls Heather Cormack Cathy Ashley and Cone Maxwell reamed that the CanCan could not be passed up so they proceeded with their own version of this typical French dance A French play presented by Robert Ellerby Brian Samson Angela Pries and Anne Cavlovlc was next on the agenda Last but not least was a round of and the gymnasium program came to an end German treats The next stop for most visitors was The Inn a German cafe Here people enjoyed home made German cakes with punch accompanied by music and slides Room display In the Industrial arts room wood electrical welding and lathe techniques were featured There was a minute French lesson In room and the dif ferent ethnic cultures of Canada were shown In one of the history rooms There were displays from the world of business mathematics projects were shown and the artists in the school had interesting work in the art room The science section had Science Fair exhibits plant growth experiments and biology experiments for viewing Visitors had discussions with the high school s guidance personnel and our nurse Mrs In room one could test their reading skills and see a film Early Recognition of quilting in the home economics display at Crafts and fresh bread were the home Earning Disabilities highlights Gulped bread Susan SomerviUe and Trevolyn Patrick Macrame weaving spinning crocheting rug and quilt making were on display In the home economics room together with some delicious homemade bread which was gone In a gulp Rooms and featured geographical exhibits and a film from the United Kingdom trip taken by Bob Smith The new Resource Centre proved to be a real attraction to the public Not only was this Open House enjoyed by the visitors but those people who participated and helped in the different activities enjoyed doing them SilverWood Achievement Day held George Burt Some of the ladies attended the District annual meeting of County Women Institute at on May and report a good meeting George Henderson and George Burt along with several men spent the long weekend at the farm at and did some repairs to the barn also some fishing Achievement day The achievement day was held on Saturday May 27 at the
