neighbors and friends gathered to chat and enjoy outdoor party games Seen are Mrs Alice Hilts Mrs S Trousdale Hostess Lady Dean and Mrs J Kingshott Photo by Lorraine may be the setting of a proposed meeting In August between councillor from that township and other municipalities and members of a citizens group called the Coalition of Concerned Citizens Purpose of such a meeting will be to discuss and perhaps prepare some form of brief to the Commission This set up commission is conducting a study on the transmission line Ontario Hydro wishes to build from to Pickering power transmission line will cross 16 municipalities along the route The 600 volt transmission line will be carried by towers to 140 feet in and will cut a swath over feet EVEN THE MENFOLK got into the act and Mr Shultis lines up with Mr and S Trousdale all enjoying the af ternoon of visiting and mental activity Photo by Lorraine Several of the municipalities whose land will be crossed by the line have opposed the project In December Council was asked to consider two proposed routes One route originally put forth by Ontario Hydro would cut across the township in a diagonal line An alternate route suggested by Council and Planning Board in would follow a lot and concession path Least harmful At a December meeting of council a motion was brought up opposing the line but leaving the decision of which route to follow to Ontario Hydro as long as the least harmful route was chosen During a meeting of Council last week Charles Barnes of Campbellville gave councillors a brief history of the Coalition of Concerned Citizens Group of which he is a member Barnes told Council the Coalition group was born last fall and is made up citizens from the 16 municipalities the power line is scheduled to cross We Initiated a petition calling for a study of the power line under the terms of the Public Inquires Act and were able to round up signatures from he explained All factor The group knew the power line had to come through somewhere but were worried Ontario Hydro had not taken in to account all the factors We wanted to know If Hydro had looked at all the routes We were also Interested In the voltage of the line and if It could go underground for at least part of the distance Barnes noted In March the petition was presented to Premier Davis said the speaker Davis agreed to set up a public inquiry to study the line In the same month Ontario Hydro was ordered to cease purchase of land for the power line remarked Barnes So I and t the person the government appointed to conduct the inquiry is a very independent man who will conduct an objective study claimed Barnes Solandt has to September to complete his report A public hearing will be held In the Ontario Room of the McDonald Block on Bay St In Toronto on July At that time Ontario Hydro will present a technical report on the power line Barnes stated Members of the coalition would be at the July 31st meeting to listen to the hydro company report and to obtain Information for a possible brief Other parties who would like additional hearings have to August 14 to file their requests What I wanted to do was bring you people up to date on the power line question Perhaps the route can be changed maybe the power line can under Ontario suggested the delegate Reeve Anne said an underwater route might be considered When she was visiting Yugoslavia she had come across a power house transported power via cables to Italy underneath the Adriatic the Reeve claimed A request by Barnes that Council reopen the Issue of the power line was viewed with some skepticism by Councillors Art Gibson and James Watson Some farmers who s land will be affected have lost their fight It unfair to the people who wish to relocate by dragging this matter on for two or three years commented Watson We can t add muih to what already said said Councillor Gibson Will attend However Reeve Anne Mac Arthur said she would be interested in attending the July In Toronto to hear Ontario Hydro report and Deputy Reeve Don McMillan agreed to accompany her Maybe we could meet with the coalition of Concerned Citizens there the Reeve remarked A meeting In early August to acquaint the rest of council with the main highlights of the Toronto meeting was suggested by Mrs Mac Arthur A meeting In early August between members of the coalition and council to review the Toronto meeting was suggested by the Reeve Mrs MucArthur agreed to a bid by Barnes to invite councillors from other municipalities who are concerned with the power line Hydro in arrears Lorraine Lets talk about HORSES with Jennifer Barr The hot weather of last week was certainly welcomed by both instructor and pupil The progress of every swimmer was remarkable simply because the entire class was in the water from the beginning to the end instead of the usual group shivering on the shore This week ends the instruction for the first session Friday promises to be a fun day for the beginners as it will Include games and films while the ad classes will be trying their exams Hectic weekend The past weekend was rather hectic on the waterfront with the entire swimming area packed with people Numerous feet were cut and attended to by the lifeguards and emergency procedures were carried out in search of a little girl who was found at the pavilion area Many people have questioned why we don t allow floating ob jects in the water The reasoning is simply that they can be thrown or blown beyond the depth of a person who will try their best to rttrice it but unfortunately may not make it Saturday July is the last day to register for swimming lessons Hard core hydro delinquents came under fire at last Monday s Board of Trustee meeting held at the Town Hall Hydro manager Hockey pointed out that local community debt totalled 10 with some long outstanding Steam show at Steam buffs from this area will be among those attending the seventh annual steam show at the fair grounds August Sand The show is one of the larger exhibitions of steam engines in the province along with the big show in Milton each year it attracts many of the large steamdriven pieces of machinery and equipment on which the province once relied The show is also a magnet for owners of restored antique vehicles cars and trucks As the mntttr had been one for discussion at a previous mtctlnt the Trustees decided to on their motion and five disconnection warning not Ices will be sent to all customers notifying them of hydro cutoff and if such procedure is necessitated they will be with a winning smile She was never meant to be bom however but was a very lucky accident The plump bay cob marc called Gypsy who Is Ninas dam and who now makes her home with us used to belong to my mother and was boarded at a stable near Montreal At the age of five Gypsy was an up and coming pony hunter with big plans for a show season at the Lake of Two Mountains Hunt But the call of nature tot in the way Gypsy was stabled next to a Sung Norwegian Dun colt who designs on Gypsy s virtue Mother entered the stable one morning to find a shattered stall a loose dun colt and a small bay mare with an extremely self satisfied grin Gianina was on her way We were all quite upset but gradually viewed Gypsy s rounding body with happy expectations On March Nina was born in the middle of a as becomes such interesting foals The little mare had a rough time as the was twisted and needed assistance But by the time we arrived at the stable following a call from the manger the foal was ten minutes old and Gypsy was incredulously at this miracle Color mix And what a miracle Out of a bay mare and a grey dun stud had come a buckskin filly We were flabbergasted Nina was a round creamy bundle with the worst legs and head Ive ever seen on a foal but a very bright twinkle In her eye The colour head and legs have changed but the twinkle remains In steer desperation my mother gave the unwanted to Mac who particularly keen on the Idea By the age of six months Nina was pure grey dun with black points dorsal stripe and zebra leg markings eligible for the first Canadian registration in the A3 A as a The A3 RA il US group interested in gathering and of the early Spanish Dun horses Grulla and Bed Dun Grulla is the most rare by luck than design we bad perfect example of that had her toy In couple of horse ma lines was featured in the Canadian Horse Journal and eventually made the Acton Free Press No door was big enough to her swelled head to pass Squished Toes Peculiarly enough a real rapport developed between Mac the cattle farmer reluctantly turned horse owner and the unplanned fill In fact she rapidly became a one man horse as good as gold for him but hell on wheels when his back was turned Don get me wrong she is a gentle mare who wouldn t really harm an one intentionally but she does somehow manage to get into the most unusual predicaments and cause the most awful trouble possible Nina will do WHAT she wants to do WHEN she wants to do it and she reallj believe any one will object She just believes the world revolves around her and nothing will convince her otherwise She is extreme friendly people were made for her pleasure so why should she not be pleasant She the first to lumber over and say hi when visitors venture into the pasture The only trouble is she docsn always stop at a respectful distance but feels that only a hug complete with hooves trampling human toes will suffice very good at squishing feet and then looking around in all innocence as if she wondering why this human is making such noises Obstinate broad There are times when she absolutel refuses to obey me but sticks out her tongue at me and either stands like an immovable rock or bucks her fool head off All my attempts to master her have been completely unsuc cessful and vet she is an absolute for Mac very demoraluing There are times when I storm into the house yelling at Mac that his blanket blank mare Is ready for the glue factory At which point he will stroll to the bam or pasture to see for himself Nina invariably is standing with a butter t melt in my mouth attitude and tells Mac long sad stories about my incredible meanness Whereby Mac has a little whisper and she then proceeds to do everything he I told you so grin at me and she slyly sticks out her tongue again It enough to drive a girl to drink EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR SEPTEMBER 1972 The three programs described below are being offered by College Centre In September Graduates of these programs will
