Churchill S Dear Sir My husband and I have just returned from two weeks holiday spent in the area We found two Free Presses waiting for us on our return containing the reports about Acton main street We were very Interested In the comments made by both the businessmen and the shoppers but feel a much better report could have been obtained by a house to house visit The comments would have been much more varied and I would like to add my own personal comments about shopping In Acton I feel very strongly that if one lives in a town one should support its tradespeople but there are many times in Acton when It Is not possible to obtain the goods one needs due Im afraid to the shortsightedness and apathy of some of the local tradespeople There are exceptions to these of course and I should like to mention a couple of them by name 1 have always found Mr Hinton and his staff at least most of them very helpful obliging and open to suggestions for Appreciates editorial Hamilton Ont Aug Dear Sir We were very sorry to see one local menswearstoreclose They carried a good quality type of merchandise and would order anything for you if they didnt carry it in stock This is a store that will be really sadly missed Now how could it be improved A coat of paint a general clean up of weedy patches and other areas and a smile and kind word for the general public and for goodness sake get rid of the terrible odor that pervades Acton and surrounding area most of the time 1 often wondered why Actonlans went about with the look of someone with a nasty smell under their noses it wasnt very long before found out why and this year has been the worst ever Personally 1 am tired of hearing ail the excuses put out by the management of Beardmore and the air pollution board too Please do something constructive so that can be happy and sweet tempered and breathe sweet smelling clean incidentally is a town very similar to Acton in many ways itevenhasa smell problem from the paper mill but the town itself is a much better planned one with a lovely wide lane main street The population is only a few hundred more than Acton but I would suggest that Acton could learn a lesson from when it comes The town that impressed us most while we were away was Elliott Lake well planned clean and the air was like nectar so clear and free from pollution A few more towns like this in Canada would be
