shopping areas and Gardens Lee and I were posted at Honest Eds We were to ask people different questions about how often they shopped there why they shopped there what they usually bought and what they thought of the quality of the products AnawerquesUooa Most people we talked to wore from outoftown and were Just in the vicinity and had heard of all the bargains Moat of the people said the quality of the merchandise was poor but many pharmaceuticals were of good quality One person who was from Weston said he came hero for the bargains but t find any Two people were from in town and one said he only shops here at Christmas and maybe one other time of the year Another man from Toronto says he shops here about 12 times a year and likes the store because of the bargains I think moat people shop there because of the bargains because they ve read In the paper or seen the advertisements on V BORIS Shean opens restaurant door lor students on IhD Mass Media and Marketing trip Mall is busy class discovers By Bob On Wednesday November the Marketing class went on a field trip We visited many dif types of stores and on the way home stopped at Gardens This large mall is located north of highway near the There was a large selection of stores under one roof We Interviewed store keepers and asked their opinions of the advantages of their location and the average amount of business they do Mall busy Their general opinions are as follows they all agreed that the mall was extremely busy and believed that their customers liked quality selection and comfort all under one roof While speaking with them we discovered that they can be quite busy We also interviewed many customers most of whom were relaxing in the chairs or benches within the mall One person that we spoke with had not been at the mall before and was attracted there because of the variety found under one roof and the reputation of one of Its stores Out of the six people we talked to only one person preferred street to mall shopping the majority thought that the prices wore reasonable and they enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the mall Return trip We also enjoyed our visit and would like to return to the mall sometime In the near It Is our opinion that with malls like these street shopping could become obsolete unless something is done to modernize Enjoy atmosphere of Colonnade NOTES FROM A ACTON HIGH effective by the end of the year Miss Linda McHutchlon was appointed to Brookvllle Public School Steve Van Fleet The current issue of Education News contains an article on Steve Van Fleet and his recent athletic Colonnade gives you the impression that it a place where only the weltoff can afford to shop but actually It has something for everyone When questioning one store keeper on what kind of customers she got In her shop her reply was that the majority were from teenagers to middleaged people of the middle class bracket Doll store One store we visited was the Doll Haven It displayed every doll from Raggedy Ann to the wives of Henry What kind of customers come to this store They range from little girls to grandmothers We also questioned a couple of customers In the Colonnade thought It was a good Idea to have the Colonnade situated where It was but the usual setback was that the prices were too high Warm atmosphere setup of the stores lent a warm atmosphere to the Colonnade Our Impressions Its a nice place to browse in but we would not want to shop there with Jennifer I m on my soapbox this week about changes in horse breeds wrought by North America What has happened to the native hones with their very lnd characteristics so suited to their purposes It seems that everywhere you look you look you see Imitation Sad or Thoroughbreds no matter what the original breed Take the Morgan for example Some eight horse generations ago blood was introduced In an effort to Improve the lovely chunky all purpose horse who had delighted people for years Now we have two types of Morgan the original and the tall willowy show Morgan shown as a Park horse with high stepping gait long feet flashing eyes and questionable temperament No longer con the Morgan Horse Society claim that all Morgans are the image of the foundation stallion Justin Morgan The Arab too has come in for his share of streamlining Centuries of desert breeding have not turned out a perfect enough He now has to be big because we all know that a horse under 17 h is not the ego Inter people desire So our growing and ore being shown In Park Saddle attire with high act on an 1 flared nostrils Very fancy but no longer unique the beloved Quarter horse th working breed of America Is being tampered with Thoroughbred blood is being In an effort to product a taller leggier horii There Is faction in the States that Is to turn the Quarter horse Into type show Re the Shetland pony in tl breed books as a m draft horse This sturdy fr fellow is a perfect children pony in the Shetland Isles and Quiet reliable broad of back no stable Is will out one Armed with this description don try to find the Shctlands at the Royal Hackney blood has turned tht American Shetland intoafery fine legged little toy Miniature harness horses or Saddlers they have long tappered heads full of teeth tiny hooves allowed grow ridiculously long and trot whip and a wee pony on the end of a taming the beast Is really luughoblo Where Is our children friend le of currying lbs if The hunter and jumper has become purely Thoroughbred show ring Is no longer the place for the well performing If you don t have a with papers stay home Mind you if these long legged weedy animals actually went out to hunt they d never make it In Europe and England ponies shown in full feather and coat In fact there are rules against trimming any hair A hunter is a sturdy working horse easily able to negotiate rough country without having a nervous breakdown A working horse Is shown as just that The horses we see at shows todayour new improved breeds have as much resemblance to the original as a pink poodle does to the water dog I once was In France Can t we leave anything alone NOTICE TO THE RATEPAYERS OF THE you cast your ballot for Town Council I believe it should be with the full under stand of what position respective candidates or office take on important Issues For your consideration I would like to make the following observations With Regional Government for County promised shortly I believe it is crucial to have responsible and concerned representatives at the local level to prepare for the inauguration of this new concept In mun government The incoming Council should adopt a policy of restraint towards further residential development in Acton until the effects of the current boom in housing on town services have been evaluated Although the Town has recently sold the remaining land In the park I believe that Council still has a strong responsibility to encourage new industry to locate In Acton Acton s Centennial is rapidly approaching and members of Council should be prepared to contribute time and effort to ensure that this milestone in our local history Is a resounding success However Council must also be mindful of the financial aspects surrounding Centennial celebrations and attitudes of local citizens must be carefully considered A Councillor should provide an avenue of communication between local government and the individual taxpayer All citizens deserve a fair appraisal of their concerns It time we started demonstrating a positive pride in our community 1 would like the privilege of represent ing you again Council REELECT
