approaches find ourselves on the threshold of another century and the amalgamation of the north of Holton County this may change Acton as town but not as a community Wc may no longer be known as he Town of Acton More reason then to preserve the name and the names of all the residents during Actons 100 years history We can look forward to a number of events during our Centennial year especially active and successful new year The dance last Friday too bad We had hoped to see more teenagers out The consensus of opinion of those teens that did come was that we should separate kids from teens and hold a dance for each of them We are willing to try anything to please so the dance on Friday January 12 will be strictly for those and over The next dance will be for kids under 14 If we can get enough teenagers out to our dances to save the money we win try to get a hand for a few dances Start again Dont forget the childrens swimming starts at Friday January 12 The ladies Sum n trim starts on Monday January On Wednesday January 17 we will be starting the craft for teens Interested in petaldip flowers mafcing and other assorted bobby crafts We hope to introduce fencing lessons for all ages on Thursday January and gymnastic lessons the same night For those not so actively disposed we are considering a doityourself Yoga group if there is enough interest shown That also will be on Thursday nights Registration nights will be on January 3 8 9 and from to pin Sunday afternoons Starting Sunday January 14 we will be staying open Sunday afternoons from 130 to for any young men who wish to drop In for basketball table tennis or pool The membership fee is S3 but the young men want to leave it on a pay as you show basis the charge will be 35 cents each Sunday We are operating a snack booth whenever there a a program going on in the Y for those who like pop hot chocolate chips and candy while they play or leam We do hope that you will take advantage of the new programs we have to offer this season for we are here to off our service to the people of Acton Appoint teachers Five teacher appointments to four North public schools have been approved by the Halton County Board of Education The approval came during a regular Board meeting Thursday The appointees are James and Miss Sharon Hurren toBrookville Public School Mrs Sophia Hopwood to J M Denyes Mrs Msrcin to Public School David Olson to Percy Merry Public School At the same meeting the Board accepted the resignation of five teachers who had taught In North schools The retiring teachers are Mrs and Mrs ACTON CENTENNIAL One way to start off the fund raising campaign Is to combine the construction of the building with the preservation of Acton residents names How will It be done Buy a brick Already many names are on the list and the Centennial Commission is asking that you make sure yours is added during the campaign Here is what you do Send to the Buy a Brick Fund Box Acton Ontario Each will buy one brick Each brick will carry a polished Brass plate bearing a person business company or group name The bricks will make up one of the Inner walls of the new community centre to be called the wall of fame The bricks cost S3 each You con buy as many as you want Include the full name of the person or persons to be honoured in the wall of fame This is the start of our fund raising campaign December in St General hospital She hud been In General Iwspltul and was transferred to a nursing homo In St Catharines she suffered a fall breaking her hip and arm and man taken to lie hospital there Funeral service for MrB MacDonald was held Monday morning December 11 con ducted by the Rev A McKontie and Informant was In cemetery Pallbearers were Neil Bowles I eat norland Herb Ritchie Doug Mason Hay Thompson and Dr A J lluchanan Mrs would have been years of ago this month She had In fairly good health and tier memory was still keen She enjoyed hockey games on television playing cards and the an early she was en gaged on the post office staff when post office was located in small building where the Nova Scotia Is now Willie the post office she learned the art telegraphy but the telegraph office was later moved to the Grand Trunk rail road station She served as clerk on the post office staff under the late Postmaster James Matthews for years until her marriage on May First librarian She became the first librarian when small room In the town was set up for the purpose She was a charter member of the Duke of Devonshire chapter and still served on the executive after well over years Miss M Bennett is now the only charter member living During the first World War she wusregentof the chapter During second World War she with the other members of the chapter did a great deal of war wont She was vice president of the Red Cross Society She was In Advance prize lists for the fair are printed already and spring and summer catalogues have been delivered of tho workroom in the old post office when half a dozen sewing machines were kept busy sowing for the soldiers Cenotaph was the last surviving member of the which arranged the erection of War Memorial after World War After her marriage she became a member of Knox church and also lis M8 and Utiles Aid During tho course of her 06year membership she was honored with an honorary II member ship in the Womens Missionary society of the Presbyterian Church In Canada and she was an officer of the Presbytery executive for years She as treasurer of the WMS for years Insurance business Her husband who died In ItHI was an employee of Co luter customs officer and insurance agent He was also one time fire chief of tho brigade secretary of Acton school board and secretary of Walker Lodge After his death Mrs Mar Don old ably
