The Ador Free March Rotary club celebrates its 25th anniversary On the eve of the actual date of the anniversary of Acton Rotary club 140 gathered at the Legion Hall Friday to celebrate the quarter decade of the clubs service Charter members presidents the district governor members of parliament and representatives of other groups gathered for the gala event In a setting of blue and gold streamers and balloons Giant blowups of club pictures over the years decorated the walls The dinner menu was exactly the same as that on the first day of organization yeara ago turkey with potatoes peas and salad and pies a la mode Presented charter Present Rotary president Gary Dewjdns presided for the happy evening Invocation was given by one of the charter members present the Rev Col John M Anderson M and Bar as he had done years ago Honorary member Jim Ledger now of Grin Introduced the special guests and several of them spoke briefly recalling rewarding associations ana highlights of projects and events years A souvenir booklet outlined some of these high spots of the years Including pictures Hunter was present who as president of the OakvUle Rotary club ago had presented the new Acton club with its charter The club sponsored Rotary here Charter members Dr Frank spoke on behalf of the charter members present himself and Rev Anderson Wesley Alfred Long Lea MacSwaln and Fred Wright Mrs Alice of Guelph was also here her husband Victor B Rumley was a charter member Other charter members of the club either absent or deceased are Roy Arnold Mclntyre Aylaworth Harold Baxter Douglas Garrett Art Haydon Edwin Jennings David Lindsay Len Amos Mason Art John and George Sirs Past presidents John spoke representing the past presidents George Mason sent greetings from Florida and Chamber has Invited a known expert In land disposal of urban wastes to speak at the dinner meeting at the Dominion Hotel on Wednesday April at 30pm Professor L R Webber of the Land Resource Science Depart of the University of Guelph is the speaker He graduated from the Ontario Agricultural College University of Toronto with a BSA degree In Chemistry and an M S degree from Cornell University Ithaca where he specialized in soli physics Teaches at V Closely associated with teaching and research at the of Guelph he has taught courses in soli conservation soil physics and environmental Slides of horse competitions shown quality graduating into the area of land disposal of urban wastes in recent years Professor Webber has stated the disposal of urban wastes garbage and sewage sludges on agricultural land will not be considered as a great gift from the cities to our farmers we cannot Ignore the everpresent hazards of overloading a soil with toxic substances such as heavy metals and the creation of an environment endowed with Infectious bacteria and viral pathogens Municipalities have an obligation to assure the receptors of urban wastes that the pollution hazards are minimal In view of the Professors scientific data and the proposals for the Chamber dinner meeting could turn into one of the most Interesting meetings of the past year By Mrs D G Robertson Mrs Morris of the area provided part of the program for the regular evening meeting of Acton Golden Age Club She showed slides of the Rock wood Trail Riders in competition at Creemore and King City she also provided the commentary Many beautiful horses were seen also the presentation of trophies and awards to the lucky riders Mrs McGinnls is the daughter of Mrs Williamson one of the newer members of the Golden Age Club Nancy Shoemaker grand daughter of Mrs A Shoemaker also a Golden Age Member gave her speech on Ann Frank Ibis was the speech she gave In the Oral Communications elimination contest sponsored by the Ontario Public school Trustees Association and Ontario Hydro Nancy was introduced by Mrs A Lambert Nancy proved to be a good orator with a pleasing personality Birthday greetings were sung for Mrs Shoemaker Mrs Mclntyre Mrs McEneryandD Robertson Biscuits muffins and Jam were served with a cup of tea and a social time enjoyed Nixon attends Opposition leader Robert Nixon is scheduled- to
