Dogs menace stock council wrestled with canine problems Monday night before deciding to take the suggestion of Deputy Reeve Coxe about printing and cir culating posters explaining town ship dog regulations to residents Dogs in the township are bothering livestock Some for mers have been forced to shoot them Reeve Tom Hill said he has been called about the dog menace and he has advised those bothered to call the Ontario Provincial Police to have them shot They are sure doing it at he told council But tho deputy reeve said it was a problem One elderly lady ho knows can either choose to chase the dogs away or call the police she chooses the former because by the time police arrive the dogs have vanished If they call police first then dogs can worry an animal to death Even one younger able bodied farmer in Hornby has shot five dogs to protect his livestock Dogs have raided his duck pond so there Is only one duck left said the township had to make it clear to residents what was happening Wheres our dog catcher asked Wilfrid Leslie He goes when called an swered the deputy reeve but like police when he la there the dogs arent The Acton Free Press Wednesday May OMB backs particularly concerned with the resolution because It did not matter in the rural areas No one on council supported it when it came to a vote The resolution stated the recommendations were the result of a study shich indicates Sunday selling would increase retail costs considerably and that Sunday should be retained as a compulsory day or rest for the social attitudes and mental hygiene of any town ship Committee of Adjustment Letters from the to council in the matter of an appeal by Donald Peters over refusal or the committee to allow him to convey a parcel of land 125 feet by feet from acres ho owns between Concessions 10 and part of Lot 27 Indicated the board agreed use of the land was restricted to agricultural use The committee decided the change land uso contravened township bylaw setting out the number of separations and the O MB agreed Want severance Another appeal by Albert and Margaret for a severance at Lot 20 Concession 10 on Confederation St was denied as the Board decided the shows that Bylaw of the township prohibits the proposed use The erected a dwelling on tho central part of the holding about eight years ago About four years ago the nor- them part of the land was sold and a dwelling built two years ago This left the southerly portion vacant on which the Dewdneys asked a severance for a dwelling The committee of adjustment decided not to approve because the land was too low and It ap peared very wet when It was visited It was also suggested sewage might pollute the river The OMlJ decided neither the committee or the board had the power to grant tho severance citing the provisions of the Planning Act and the restricted area bylaw There are certain exceptions slated in this bylaw but these do not seem to assist this applicant the decision said Both decisions were delivered by vice chairman D Jamlcson Wayne Burns assistant at Lord Elgin High and Nick Volpc co ordinator of physical education hove been promoted to assistant
