Chester You Owe My Bird An Apology the first of the two plays featured Bob as Scouting around By John Tost Perhaps you may remember that In my fast column I had an answer to the energy tax crisis Unfortunately the government lifted the tax just before the column was presented and as a result there have been some impllcallons made that Im not up on my current events I would like to disprove this theory making a rev be Known as Newfoundland and that the next hit song to sweep the music charts in S will be Bail Out the Chief Wouldnt that be peachy- keen Speaking of Scouting It looks as though the fad Cub Pack Is preparing for the day when Scoutlngs Influence spreads to other worlds It seems they recently had a space meeting for which each cub was to come dressed as a spaceman Apparently Roger won the space kit for best costume hands down I heard he a raygun on the judges Roger and by the way I think youd fit right in with my troop because Ive long said that several of our members MUST be from another planet While the Boys were Investigating the possibilities of Scouting on Mars the Limehouse Cub Pack was trying to get a little more familiar with some of the sights here on Mother Earth Tour DCS On a recent trip to Toronto International Airport they were taken for an indepth look at the workings of an airport They had a tour of a DCS and saw the hangars meteorological office terminal two and terminal one and then went up to the roof where I heard the view was windy but beautiful Soon after this same pack had a trip to the Georgetown Fire Station While there they in spected the two pumper trucks the rescue van and saw some fire fighting equipment A discussion was held afterward wilh Chief Having never personally benefitted from a trip to the fire hall I thought Id lake the op portunity to clear up a question that for years has gone answered 1 phoned one of my Inside men in and with the utmost care asked him why a fireman wears red sus penders The answer to keep his pants up Needless to say 1 wish Id thought of that White elephants is also better off for having recently had a multi- sale There were handicrafts baked goods toys and games and white elephants Not to be confused with the legendary pink elephants They made a sub stantial profit and had an enjoy able time but Im wondering who it was that cleaned up after those elephants The weekend of May saw the second annual North Halton District Explorers hike take The route followed the nice Trail from the Goodyear Memorial Scout camp in the Hockley Valley nights campsite to the finish point at the Forks of the Credit approxi mately miles Now as we all know every camp is usually remembered for some event that took place over the course of the weekend such as the monsoonal rains the cam re that wouldnt light the sun that never did rise the Scouter that never did rise etc I think that our Explorers hike will long be remembered for our small exercise in crosscountry hiking conducted on Friday evening Allow me to explain this matter in detail Urge to explore In order to get to Friday nights designated campsite a hike of approximately three miles had to be made Two miles of this was on the Bruce Trail and the last mile was crosscountry It was then that our urge to explore the unknown got the better of us It seems that every twoman team figured they knew a better way to reach the campsite so as a result we went from a small con group or 60 to a large spread out area consisting of mini groups of five or six The area was not what youd call prime hiking territory because of the very thick growth and the very deep bogs However this did not seem to The Hockley Valley Safari Club Quote of week We spent roughly minutes fighting our way through the trees and was during this time I heard the quote of the week One of our men shouted through the trees Scouter I wish had a Unfor tunately the message was garbled In transmission and the was heard to reply Son you should have done that before you came hiking Everyone made it to the site in fairly good lime except for our only lost hiker However thanks to Norm mobile search techniques we quickly found Scouter Jim We still dont believe his story about being held captive by a band of hermits The rest of the weekend went as planned with the only problem being on occasional rain shower Congratulations to the 8th Georgetown for producing the winning team ana general con to all those who received some stage of their Explorers Badge Well done ODDS AND ENDS Congratulations to John Booth of the Nerval Troop who recently received his Wood Badge Scouticus Is coming anyone interested in forming a Polish Sausage fan club Is asked to contact Norm SavllI Nurse farm hosts two judging schools By Henry J Stanley The Judging School for
