saw the station had been partially torn down and be was able to buy the tower from the new station owner and start to work on its removal When the time Came to lift off the tower roof all the cranes and boom truck owners he contacted seemed to be tied up for the long Labor weekend With the loan of a wagon from Farm 1 Georgetown and the volunteer help of two neigh bors Peter and Frank Nan the tower was transported to Township Since the 35 acres already has htstonca merit In that it belonged to the late Col Ballantine and the four stone buikting5on the property not counting a little stone dog house were built from limestone quarried on the site It seemed that the acquisition of the Acton station tower would preserve more of the history of County but the property lies on the Niagara escarpment so the tower will probably lie dismantled until the future of their land is determined by the government Mrs Margaret is the author of the humourous cover collectors book The Book of County Council Is in the possibility of the former Children at Hugh Milton to alleviate growing pressures at the office building One proposal currently being considered is moving both the Emergency of many small roomB and docs not provide ideal office accommodation Social and Family Services Administrator Vivian indicated the move could cause some hardship on his department Fall in rural Ontario Is synonymous with county fairs There arc six fair weekends In our riding of this year including those Milton Georgetown Acton and Erin as well as the Milton Steam Era and the Potato The Members of Parliament from rural Ontario ere the envy of those from the cities and other provinces It seems that our type of small agricultural fair is almost unique to Southern Ontario These weekends provide an in formal and pleasant at in which meet and chat with friends and neighbors It is also a chance for politicians to do a little politicking This year with regional and municipal elections slated for October 1 there is a virtual waiting line of big smiles and hearty handshakes for every fair goer People tend to forget soaring prices and capital punishment for a while and spend a few hours pretending they know all about knocking a wooden milk battle off a shelf with a worn out baseball Or if you are less energetic you can simply stand around and stare at some of the biggest and best in the world No fear of a hassle they Just stare right back Two weekends ago I took the whole family including the four kids and two in laws up to the first annual HMlsburgh Potato It turned out to be an extremely first effort for the town of less than people However all must have been involved in the organization over the last year because the two days of Hies Included snowmobile races games rides for the kids the crowning of a queen fashion show dance etc etc But the most popular attraction as might be expected was the beer garden out there In right field at the ball park tent music and all deserves a great deal of credit for the success of their first venture By the time you read this the Acton Fair will bo over but here Is rundown of those remaining in riding this fall Milton Sept
