OUR READERS WRITE Crossing guard comments Dear Editor 1 Fed Up with Regional Govern I m if people in Acton were asked If they wanted Regional Government In the beginning the answer would have been definite NO Why weren the people who call Acton home what we wanted Democracy What Is its meaning Let us our on matters that concern our life A matter which been brought to light Acton we have our say on whether or not we keep our P They are a great comfort to have around Granted a few more men might lighten their load bo could have even better protection but Regional Police who needs them Or the expense which logically would occur and hard working police force in our town Why lose them This is not progress but stupidity Milton spoke up for their police Come on Acton let do our bit before we find its too late Eunice a grade student letter in Feb 12 edition put one situation very clear It would be great to hear more from our young people whom have many to be proud of in our town Parents should come see our nice new sidewalk on Acton where your children have to maneuver their way to school each day Then you would find out why they come home soaked hurt from nasty falls etc Sure the street is plowed but all that nasty muck and slush is on the sidewalk on top layers of ice Why did the town bother putting a sidewalk for the children If It to remain an injury trap all winter long Pardon me thanks men for the one sanding Before I leaving Acton please Mr Engineer put your stop signs entering Acton A kindergarten girl almost got hit today by a car sailing through and she think to stop as a friend was playing chase with her Close calls like this are not infrequent In spite of two older children losing ten minutes twice a day from class because of a badly From my observation Acton is the busy street not Peel etc Even more so now our town of Acton has a beautiful pool so I sure the few cars coming to Acton would not mind stopping to let our wee ones get safely to the highway All that I can say tor our children lately crossing No highway is Remember it is a Cross Walk speed limit and I am a ferocious crossing guard Yes the children are good Wish I could say same for some of the blind and careless drivers On closing the Free Press gives us in our home town a great opportunity to express our feelings Let us all come out from hibernation and let our neighbours know how each other reels especially on Regional Government before wc are all sorry Once our P are gone we may wish them back but you can bet they won return Another loss In the name of progress Pit Robinson House builders problems I am writing to let the of Halton Hills know the difficulties to the house- builder and the cost since Regional Govt were told Acton has all the houses they can accommodate Tor the sewage available Soon after this several subdivision and houses appear In the spring we applied again Wc spent all summer running all over the countryside to meetings trying to get a severance from one acre lot with one house My family has lived in Acton for generations but it seems outsiders get more consideration Finally in the foil were granted a separation at a cost of 100 Next everything had to be cleared deeded We hod the lot surveyed three times before paper work could lie finished cost of It cost just to try for a mortgage Your perm I Us an all obtained outside of Acton and you pay for these of course over Urges group discussions As your progresses It has to be Inspected at a cost of as you need your many three inspections In December went to sec about getting Cost then was Of course Acton t take the check You get the form and pay In Georgetown So when we go down they tell us wc nave to pay in Acton because they have the forms In Jan 1 went to the Acton office again This time they tell me Burlington handles this phone to Georgetown for more in formation the prices have gone up After waiting over three weeks and phoning several times were received the forms the price SI 440 water connection 750 sewer connection I was shocked and enraged I phoned own to wc if there was a mistake that was it I have phoned and tried to make contacts with people who could maybe look into it but wc are still hop rig The lone has enough flnancnl problems without being taken in by a government run like syndicate or dictator It time Acton came into its own Disgusted Dear sir Some of your readers may hove been somewhat confused by the article in last weeks Free Press under the heading Tight for your rights president warned farmers The Ontario Federation of Agriculture has done a great deal to improve the lot of Ontario farmers members of the and members At a Hailon meeting on Gordon Hill president of the told farmers to raise hell if they did not like OFA and regional policies concerning agricultural land use Some members of the disagree with on the for land use freezing and thi promise of a form of compensation for the loss of development rights to communications problem m farmers and owners of land in Halt n do not understand the policies and planning that is taking place and which m offer an ad vantage or disadvantage to their short term
