OVER A DOZEN award dinners accepted 16 trophies at the Acton High annual athletic banquet the first in seven years The athletics program this year was deemed successful by school officials Accomplished athletes awarded trophies are Maureen Gerth Rob Inscoe Paul ATHLETE OF the year awards for Acton High were presented to two of the younger participants in the athletic program Rick Van Fleet a grade student and Karen Chapman a grade nine student garnered the trophies at the banquet Thursday evening Junior students earn high athletic awards Rick Van Fleet and Karen Chapman were named the outstanding male and female athletes of the year at the Ac ton high school athletic ban quel held at Knox Presbyter Ian church Thursday evening Over 140 school athletes consumed roast beef and potato dinner and received praise for their participation In the school athletic pro This was the first banquet In eight years Intramural and repreacn tatlve team members gamer flashes and trophies were presented to the most valu able players of the rep teams The school two highest athletic awards are made to students capable of tlon In both Individual and team sports with some degree of success who also exhibit a sportsmanlike attitude and make a contribution the school Intramural program Van Fleet was a mem ber of the junior basketball team and track team The 16 year old grade 10 student was also vice president of the school society and captain of tho Black team In competition Just a grade student year old Karen Chapman was a member of the school out standing 11 record Junior girls basketball team swim team and track team She was also deeply Involved In the intramural program which AHS physical tlon heads Bruce Andrews and Ann Pool said was very successful this year Trophies Maureen was award the outstanding track and field trophy and Tammy the outstanding fe male gymnast trophy Outstanding female and male swimming awards went to Debbie Rippon and David Hannah Mike
