decided Thursday to allow the teachers chief negotiator Jim Teaguc time off from now until a new contract is settled Thursday The Teachers Fed requested Mr be relieved of classroom duties until the end of this August but it was decided by the board this would indicate an assumption negotiations will last a long time Trustee Richard ob jected to the lime off request saying teachers should be in the classroom and not out handling union business Trustee Ernie gestcd instead of letting the chief negotiator leave the classroom part way through the year the board might as well have him out working on negotiations throughout the school year noted the board seems to be just finishing one session of contract negotia when it is forced to plunge into another These people should work full time for the teachers and forget about teaching The chief negotiator has been the same person for two or three years now so they might as well take him out of the class at the start of the school year instead of part way through said He said he was sick of nego tiating all the time and t like the idea of negotiations turning into year round marathons All we ire hearing these days in education are argu ments about salaries and we are losing the emphasis that used to be on education but re going in the wrong direction said He said he wanted to see teachers connected with the federations either in the classroom all year or not at all Trustee Richard Goodin said negotiations last too long this year We don have money so we II just tell the teachers that he said MARVIN AND Ford Alton attempt to
