Friends of Museum Festival held Sunday The Acton Free Press Wed June The usually quiet grounds erf the Halton Region Museum Kelso were filled with the sounds of music laughter and lively conversation Sunday afternoon as the Friends of the Museum presented their annual summer festival The Milton Senior Citizens Orchestra provided the back ground music as they played old time favorites on their fiddles and other Tables were set up outside Ihc main museum building and guests were able to relax with a hot cup of tea or soft drink as they listened to the band and discussed which ex hibits they wanted to see in the course of the afternoon Point the way Karen and Ray Trace treasurer and president of the Friends of the Museum organization were kept busy pointing the way to the var buildings and telling what they knew of Ihe origin of the museum artifacts They were helped by a of student and adult guides dressed in old fash ioned attire who were able to explain what was going on at the craft demonstrations Those giving the demon rations came from near and far away places in Region Two Georgetown ladies Mrs and Mrs Maggie Crawford both senior Liens spent the afternoon inside showing how two people can easily work on a quilt together with beautiful results Bob Harrington of Glen Williams who has been caning for over years worked on restoring the seat of an old rocking chair out doors while year old Rose mary Veith of Burlington gave a spinning wheel demonstration nearby Real smith Mark Parkinson worked in side the old printers and Steve Kovaes of Ham kept busy blacksmithlng in another building en tally Mr Kovaes is from Hungary and his last name means blacksmith in Hun Politicians were also on the grounds of the museum Sun day Milton Mayor Anne MacArthur made an appear ance in the early afternoon as did Julian Reed Frank Philbrook arrived shortly afterward to mingle with the crowd The purpose of the annual summer festival according to of the Museum Karen Trace is to raise money for the extra artifacts and things the fiscal budget I allow for Mrs Trace said although there are only eight members of the Friends of the Museum organization there arc also about sup porting members who art willing to help out whenever needed FRIENDS OF THE MUSEUM who helped make Sunday afternoon s festival at Kelso a success included MPP Dr Frank Philbrook right and the Trace
