Heart Fund Mr Connor explained the United Way Is an umbrella organization that raises funds for agencies it which provide services on a regional basis including Georgetown He said until now had never gone beyond its boundaries in fund raising but in the past few years services to the regional agencies have increased not drastically but in creased The 11 Georgetown agencies served by United Way are Canadian National Institute for the Blind Com munity Youth Programs Family Services Bureau Grace House Con Credit Counselling Service Helping Hands Hearing Handicapped Board John Howard Society March of Dimes Multiple Sclerosis Society and Vic lonan Order of Nurses Connor stated I under stand how you feel you see the United Way as a large organization coming in rais ing money that might other wise be yours He admitted there had not been enough consultation with the local agencies but pointed out ser vices are being provided In the north and suggested it seemed reasonable for the Georgetown people to contri bute to these services This was simply a pilot project among industry to see if they would allow payroll tlons He said the letter signed by Chandler which raised the ire of local agencies simply asked for a discussion with industries and did not solicit funds If they don want us in their plant 0 My message to you is simply the services are being provided and must be fun ded he added 0 Connor said they were totally open for suggestions and were hoping for some combination effort that wouldn t step on anyone s toes He said there is a study being conducted by several United Ways on the realign ment of boundaries He said the result may be a recom mendation for a Halton Regional United Way He said the Georgetown representa live on the study is Terry and the Acton repre Regional Police are studying the methods used to tender towing contracts and possible alternatives to tendering Towing contracts were awarded for a second lime this year during the summer and since
