Goings on at Branch By John McIIugh At the general meeting of the Branch Monday Sep tember 13 11 sons and daughters of veterans were accepted into the Branch The initiation ceremony was ably conducted by our president Ab Irwin assisted by vice- president Alex We were especially pleased to welcome into ordinary membership Ross tine To all the new members the Branch welcomes you aboard President Ab Irwin and officers of the Branch were especially pleased re the Branch Anniversary lions Splendid response of so many members volunteering their services made this weekend one of the most memorable in Branch his Starting off on Friday night entertainment pro vided by the Chorahers Bob t inlay and his banjo Ron Loutitt at the organ and many others were all well received by an enthusiastic over cap acity audience Breakfast On Saturday morning the following members worked hard to produce one or the finest breakfasts this Branch has ever known Harry Otter bein Doug Mason and Bill Cook slaved over a hot stove turn ing out bacon eggs and pan cakes with such one would think they had been doing this type of thing all their lives Great work fellas Also working with them in the kitchen were Comrades Chuck Sam Steve Goy and Ron On dishes were Gord James Jim don Fred Allen and of course our President Irwin A big job well done and the thanks of the Branch goes out to these men Around break fasts were served It was very gratifying to read in the Free Press that the officers of the Fall Fair Board felt that the Legions participation in the parade and the services of the Mini Bus transporting people back and forth to the Fair to and from the Branch a inly helped to a great degree in the success of the fair This has to be a shining example of cooperation Perhaps it could be repeated a gam another year The Pipe and Drum Band of Ontario Command were out standing All members had every reason to be proud of them The Ladies Auxiliary provided hot meals for the band and they were lally appreciative of the Auxi efforts and Branch hos The Branch was jammed to capacity Saturday evening It was nice to see so many old familiar faces from far and near enjoying themselves in a real spirit of comradeship Sunday afternoon On Sunday afternoon an enjoyable concert was played by Acton Citizens Band The band selections were varied and appealed to every taste The Chorahers performed under the direction of Com rade Ted Hansen and David at the piano My thanks and the thanks of the Branch goes out to George Elliott conductor of the Band and its members and of course to our own Chorahers Harry Otterbcln Doug Mason and Brian McDonald handled the cooking chores consisting or hot dogs and chips Our two members of Parliament were on hand Sunday afternoon Frank Philbrook of the Federal and Julian Reed or the Provincial legislature Julian Reed pre sented a plaque to our dent on behair of William Davis Premier of Ontario to commemorate years of legion service and achieve ment The plaque has been placed In the lounge Frank spoke very nicely of the Legion and its anniversary He also talked to John and will be trying to do all he can to help John in his efforts to obtain a lank and field gun for our out side display Heseemcdquite taken by the whole idea The efforts of Chairman Vic Patrick and his committee certainly provided us with Watson one of the finest weekends in Gary fit
