B4 The Acton Free Press Wed October Outers battle waves Thanksgiving weekend by Meld During the past Thanks giving weekend the Acton High School Outers set out for the wilderness once again Rick and Ross McGill along with 19 students departed from the school on Thursday October on their way to Killarney They were met halfway by Greg Cowan who was to act as a third and a basic leader and teacher to the group Mr Cowan was brought to the school last May for the canoe ing option at Mini school The group left the town of Killarney on Friday October in two canoes The canoes replicas of the voyageur canoes and had been made by Greg Cowan One canoe known as the North Canoe was feet in length and had the carrying capacity or eight people however on this par ticular trip only six people in the canoe The second canoe called the Montreal Canoe was 32 feet in length and held people The group spent the following five days canoeing in Scout and Guide news The dance held by the Scout and Guide Mothers last Saturday was a complete sue cess All proceeds from the event go towards the comp letion of the new addition on the Acton Scout Hall Thank you for jour support On October 7 Cubs
