Final term Mayor seeks further term feels change now disruptive Mayor Anne Mae Arthur t think there should be an election for mayor in Milton this year During an Interview recently she ex pressed concern about I he disruption an election could cause for the municipality She said she had been advised that Halton Hills Councillors had decided not to challenge Mayor Tom Hill this term because of the disruptive effect they felt It could have on the operation of the municipality There so much ished business I ve had a good effect in pulling the areas I ran last time on my ability lo work lively at the region and because I care for people 1 use that again this time I worked hard for all or the people and 1 mean all of the people Mrs declined to make any comment concern ing campaign strategy plat form or goals and objectives that she would strive for the next term if re elected She said she feels it is too soon in the campaign to be addressing those issues However she did say she has official Milton Don Gordon is running as mayor of Milton in the Dec election In a letter to Ward One ratepayers last Mr Gordon old his constituents that he would be seeking higher office in the upcoming election A veteran of 11 years in municipal life three in Milton and eight in Oakville Coun Gordon plans a heavy campaign spending 16 18 hours a day on he campaign trail Door knocking I plan to knock on doors he said in an inter view Councillor Gordon said hell take three weeks days and devote Ihem to making personal contact with as many homeowners as he can He said he had people scattered through the municipality who have of him support but he won have a central location or campaign headquarters He said he l know how much Ihe campaign will cost but it will be all his own money Mr Gordon lives with his wife Pauline on the Sixth Line near Hornby and has lived there since He has arranged a leave of absence from his job as an accountant in financing at the Ford Motor Company in Oakville where he has worked since 1954 Business like He said he feels he could bring good administration practices and a sound business like attitude to wards the town business into the mayor s office Some councillors say you can run a town like a bus in ess Maybe not but you can use business administration techniques and the same mechanics as you would in the day to day operation of a business I feel we could be stronger in administration much stronger As mayor I would be more involved In the departments I would go out with the guys on works crews with per mission of the director and try to get a feeling for the operation and get to know the men I would do the with the fire chief m proud of the fire department and don suggest thai the efficiency be improved but it could be that there Is a need for new legislation that could help them out Belter Unison I would look for better liaison with the boards and commissions especially Ihe library board which I feel has been
