be having an assembly to remember those who died for us In the music world on Thursday November IB a total of students will be going to OKeefe Centre in Toronto to see the ballet La Ma Gardes which is being presented by the National Ballet Company of Canada The students will be leaving 30 and returning about oclock Music 76 will take place at Acton high school on Sun day November al 30 Four schools will be partici pating in this concert M Bennett Robert and the Acton high school band The concert will feature small and large choirs instrumental groups band and vocal presentations ukulele singers with some folk songs Some songs being practiced arc Song Sung Blue This Land Is Your Land and Give Us a Place to Stand There will also be a selection of songs for the on includingasongwnttenby an Freuhler called The of Canada On Thursday there was a senior ball tournament against Robert Little school There were four games mil M Z Bennett winning three of them Congratulations boys on some well played games tlotdogIJ Last Friday the first Hot Dog was held On the whole it went pretty well and most of the students enjoyed themselves Kindergarten children sent a special thank you letter to J and Price who came and showed carpenters tools and how they are used in building The children now have a carpenters bench in their room and are trying their skills at budding On Friday nights the gym is available for staff members basketball volleyball and badminton I Collect glass for fundraising drive Two and a half tons of glass were collected by members of the high school Outers Club on Saturday during their se cond glass drive Two trucks belonging to the C Field and Cartage were loaned for the day and were driven around town picking up boxes of bottles Jars etc Once back at the high school the students broke ho glass into barrels and took It to Dominion Glass in Brampton There they re ceived for their days work There were 25 people help ing out in the drive either out collecting or canvassing Outers President Paula Kilching told the Free Press the club has arranged to pick glass up twice a month at the Legion a local hotel and one apartment building She says she hopes to be able to pick up twice monthly at the other apartment dwellings in town soon The glass drive is part of a fund raising campaign by the Outers to purchase two canoes Miss Kilching says the Outers appreciate the citizens of Acton saving their empty bottles and jars She realizes she says that a few streets in town were missed and she hopes it will not happen next month MONICA a Sudbury native is teaching grade three students at Z Bennett Mrs Lawson likes Acton and feels at home in a small town Monica Lawson likes life in Acton It took a while but Monica finally has the teach ing job she always wanted Mrs a grade three teacher at Bennett School grew up in Sudbury where she also attended Laurenlian University Although she wanted to attend teachers college Mrs Lawson and her husband moved to Cambridge Eng land where he was studying for his doctorate After a year here returned to Tor onto in November of The grade three teacher then worked in an office until she could start her studies in the Teachers lion College The Lawsons have now made their home in Acton where both are contented Both are used to small towns and the quieter more peaceful atmosphere here It is more like
