building closed class rooms in the existing open concept schools Trustee Noel Cooper said noisy programs have to be either curtailed or continued with the problem of disturb ing other classes In open con schools He noted the board has been building open concept schools for 10 years now and It became very clear during the recent election campaign that parents happy with them since the problems caused were brought up by voters continually Cooper pointed out he wasn t condemning open concept schools completely because studies have shown they are beneficial for some students but the same time there are pupils who can cope with open concept teaching Trustee Don Venus backed Cooper request closed learning Incorporated into the design and subsequent consturctlon of all new elementary schools proposed for said everyone Is becoming more and more aware of the need for closed classrooms for some students He went on to suggest that as funds become available in the years ahead the board should consider modifying existing open concept schools Trustee Dick called Board plans to hire 44 more remedial teachers for the board to proceed and renovate all such schools but his idea was rejected Superintendent of Business and Finance Bruce Llndley observed many of the open concept schools built in the last few years hove pro visions in their design so partitions can be added He noted some
