for your information reaction and opinion This space will also attempt to better acquaint you with the working within this Department and the tion Facilities and programs available to you and your families As identified In the Depart s annual community brochures circulated via the mail to all homes in Halton Hills in early September the Halton Hills Recreation and Parks Department has been busy putting into effect the plan for bringing its services close to the citizens it serves Our first step has now been achieved our and staff have been de centralized into two major areas principally Wards and 2 and Wards 3 and Area offices are now in full operation or fall and winter recreation activities We encourage you lo contact your Ward area office for in formation as well as for your comments and suggestions As with any change there will no doubt be a few bugs lo be ironed out Please bear with us While most programs will be operated on an area or ward basis through the com schools centres and facilities some programs and coordinating services will be operated on a lown wide basis through the main Recreation and Parks Department office in Georgetown Recreation and Parks Director of Recreation and Parks for the Town of Hills Glen arrived in our com munity in the fall of alter having enjoyed working ex with municipal recreation departments and in Hamilton and Stoney Creek During his tenure here Glen has resided in George town and presently in Acton in an attempt to belter deter mine some of the feelings within the communities forming parts of our muni During his leisure Glen spends his time snow and water skiing and enjoys pounding a broom at the local curling club Admitting that then are a number of problems with community thai have yet lo be resolved Glen were Monday attending over workshops dealing with various aspects of education for their annual Ten of Ihe workshops were held in North Hilton here was an all day work shop at School Georgetown dealing with emergency first aid which was important since the board recently announced it least two people in each school must have first training Workshops were held in the morning and at Ihe Ontario ARncultural Museum Hilton Museum Milton to acquaint teachers with museum exhibits and lies in preparation for class field trips there There wis an afternoon workshop Marlm St school Milton dealing with how to orginizc a camping trip for ideT sessions dealing with kindergarten and language arts studies were held at W I Dick School Milton Teachers the two I Dick afternoon workshops outlined programs they have each used successful the class In the morning there was a workshop dealing with school bus safety Street along wilh a session Robert Baldwin at which teachers pooled their ideas on leaching math Teachers also learned how to appraise children work belter at a workshop at Baldwin There was also a day long workshop for Milton area resource teachers held at Baldwin Other workshops held at schools Sheridan College and in Toronto dealt with nutrition in schools the teachers and students chunking tales skating pro grams learn handball student in education learning dis ibihiies rhythmics sports medicine making the best use of pirenl volunteers dram in learning and organizing Inps lo Bronte reek Provincial Park and Mountsbcrg Wildlife Centre Some workshops were open lo the public The press was invited all There are nine professional development days each year and four were held this year before school started in Sept ember There will be another four at the end of June The only professional develop ment day organized by Ihe teachers is Ihe one held Mon The board runs this The teachers say a recent survey of Ha lion taxpayers shows most support the idea if
