Thursday Hinton called for the board to withdraw all previous motions dealing with gifted children and urged board emphasis be placed on ensuring these students receive instruction and motivation from their classroom teachers was questioned by several trustees as to exactly what motions he wanted to see withdrawn All that deal with gifted children Teachers have always had the ability to deal with gifted pupils End this segregation and put them all in integrated classes with regular students urged He said he hoped all the veteran trustees would know what motions they had passed in previous said one motion called for Ihe phasing out of segre gated classes for gifted child ren throughout Halton and the other called for gifted children to be identified by no later than grade four and Instructed regular classroom teachers to provide challenges and assistance for gifted children in their classes Hinton charged the board is involved in innovation which represents the highest kind of incompetence and noted the board is monkeying around with gifted children Several trustees noted there was no point to motion since what he wanted to see done is already being done Over the past few
