representative group ladles present Miss Caroline Bird presided at the organ and Rev Peter Barrow minister of the church welcomed the ladles The ratification of District Directors was in charge of Mrs Myrtle Provincial Board Member for Subdivi sion Area All 16 branches were represented The presidents report was given by Mrs Glenn Camp bell who thanked all who had assisted her during the year and stated that many events to commemorate the sliver anniversary of the reign or Queen Elizabeth taking place during the year Like our selves the Queen is a mother but her household Is a nation and 1 am sure it is our earnest prayer that God will bless her with health and wisdom that she will continue to reign as our beloved Queen she said A letter was read from Miss L Holding retiring home economist thanking those who had assisted her through the past years A small gift was sent to Miss Holding from the District in ap preciation for her help Reports of Standing Committees were given and the full reports were mimeographed for each branch Mrs Wilson public relations officer for the District was moderator Mrs Pat Squires acting home economist told of the up coming courses of the depart ment She told of the training and responsibilities given the 4H girls which lead to high standards There were girls In 17 clubs who took the Featuring Fruit project and girls in 15 clubs took Wear The Senior Institute took Festival of Dairy Foods which was well attended Myrtle Provincial board member gave a report and stated she was pleased to see so many old friends In the audience but mote pleased to see so many new faces She stated that when reporting a tour dont lust say we went on a tour but state where and what you saw and learned from the effort The theme for the area convention to be held in Kitchener on Nov is to be Happiness is Miss Molly McGhee Is the new Director taking the place of Mlsa Helen McKercher who has retired President Mrs Maluske is also retiring this year a special thanks was given those who are to help with the quilt at the Lee Home There are 33 guides being trained at the home now and application forms for tours will be In the next Home and Country issue Have all branches given their cent fee to the Foundation Fund This fund Is growing very slowly and if any branch can see fit to increase Its fee it would be a worthwhile gesture and would help to attain the goal more quickly There were quilt blocks donated for sale and one district donated a finished quilt to be sold The 80th Anniversary of the first WI will be held July 13 Two dozen Hoodless roses have been placed in the Inter national Peace Gardens In honor of the US Bicen tennial The Convention is in Nairobi Oct to and a number of deli gates are attending from Canada Luncheon was served by the ladies of Presbyterian Church and the ladies were thanked by Mrs G Hargrave The results of the baking competition was given by the Judges Mrs Terry and Mrs Snow as follows Butter tarts 1st Ash grove It was decided to place a plaque In the WI Hall Milton in memory of Dr Ethel Chapman who passed away several months ago Dr Chapman had been a resident of Halton County and dedicated her life to the work of the Womens In stitutes of Ontario Honors came to the branch at this meeting when Mrs W J received second prize for her tea biscuits In the district competition also when Mrs E Norton was elected third vicepresident and Mrs Wallace as federated farm repre sentative In the Districts list of new officers Guest speaker Another speaker Mrs Connie of George town was listened to with great interest as she told in an informal way of her work with the Red Cross Society with its many services avail able to me residents in the Halton Hills area She was introduced by Mrs Alder and thanked by Mrs Norton and she and Mrs Joyce Clarke who accompanied her were given small gills In appreciation Mrs Nieuwhof was given the Lions Club honor of being 1978 Citizen of the Year in Georgetown for her untiring volunteer efforts in the interests of the local Red Cross Society It was grandmothers meeting too and these hon ored persons were given small gifts by the committee in charge Mrs Klrton and Mrs Wilson Special gifts were also given to the grand mother having the eldest grandchild and the youngest grandchild which were won by Mrs J and Mrs McMillan respect ively Two poems Grand mothers and My Old Quilting Frames as read by Mrs Klrton were enjoyed by cheese were served by Mrs Wilson in the absence of Mrs Thomson Mrs B Rennick and Mrs A and all enjoyed a social time together Courtesies members pre sent Roll call was a tea towel to replenish kitchen supply After the usual business plans were discussed for the pioneer luncheon on June 26 as well as confirmation on Sunday June 19 At a recent parish council meeting the suggestion was accepted that they would do what they could to assist St Mathews House in Hamilton to meet the needs of the people In the downtown area by providing in many ways Including the provision of food when necessary The Sunday School has been sponsoring a young boy Kamanga through the Christian Child Care Pro gram and has recently un dertaken to sponsor
