Honor citizens for helping police Among citizens honored for assistance to Regional Police at the third annual Civilian Citation Awards night Tuesday May 17 wcrt Bob Mead Wesley an St and Dave McEnery Balllnafad Mr Mead a mechanic at Sllvercrcek Shell Service Sta tion and his friend Dave received plaques from Police Chief Ken Skerrett for their part in help ing catch two men who broke into the service station August last year David Alexander received a Civilian Citation Award for help given during last summer s tornado that struck Georgetown July 31 Chief said Mr Alexander on his own diverted traffic for three hours around live hydro wires that had been felled by falling trees He said police officers were busy attending to shattered store fronts and damaged can on Main Street and were aware of the fallen wires until a police officer came across Mr Alexander In control of the situation Mayor Tom Hill com upon presenting the plaque I understand you got in trouble from your Mum when you got home late and she didnt believe your story Mr Alexondcr looked to be around 18 Mr Skerrett pointed out Mr Alexander is not even a resident of the area but pitched in to help anyway The remainder of the lion awards went to residents of Oakville and Burlington Fourteen members of Regional Police were honored for a total of years service Thirty year bars went to Deputy Chief J M Jeffries and Staff Sergeant Pearce year bars to Inspector Fred Gaylard Sgt L Heath Superintendent Geo Moore and Inspector Allan Stansbury Twenty year awards went to Sgt Robert Con stable Harry Sgt Brider Peter ley Constable J Tom 1 Robinson and Doug Stanford Regional Chairman Morrow said It was a privilege to welcome people who had come to assistance of the police in some way He said too many times citizens don want to become in volved and stand Idly by while residents and police officers are attacked These people take their responsibl as citizens seriously He said on behalf of the whole
