B2 The Acton Free Press Wednesday 1977 Acton needs some fans to push Rams into win column When I first took this job I was told that Acton was a big lacrosse town I haven really seen much proof of that yet I not talking about the team I talking about the fans So far this year the team has not played a home game in front of more than 60 fans Sometimes they have had to face a stronger cheering section from the away team than Acton could muster for lis own squad Before the season started Ron Turkosz made the comment that its awfully discouraging to play for an empty house We he right The Rams are playing a lot better now than they were at the beginning of the year and they are losing games that with some fan support they could win Their record may by now but the Rams always seem to start out slow and then gain speed Manager Wayne Young pointed out that once two years ago the team was 2 15 before they got going finishing with a respectable 15 record and doing well In the playoffs It about time for the team to do It again so go on out and help withalittlesupport The team is looking around for a few new players now to give them the third line they need We need two or three more players said manager Campbell Right now he figures they have two and a half good lines depending on whether Steve Wilson will be able to play again soon He suffered a char lie horse last Monday against Dundas Campbell is pleased with the progress his rookies are making Pete Is playing particularly well having scored in each of the Rams last two games adding three assists in the Sunday game at The problem right now seems to be with the veterans Kevin Is having trouble getting going this year and has not played a really good game yet Scoring stats show the problem nearly all the Rams scoring is being done by a very few players The team has released Kentner and and Is looking at a number of new players now With Junior A teams making cuts at this time All the team needs Is a few extra players and they will be a strong team They have been playing much better lacrosse lately with their improvement showing more in their play than in the scoring The team has suffered from more than their share of shots that bounce off the goalpost Whiletheyareplayingteamscven theyarejust not getting their shots into the net With any luck and the win could bring on the winning attitude that a team needs to play its best The constant losing in front of mediocre crowds has got to be taking a toll on morale and one win plus a few more fans could make thedlfference Softbali scoresheets Some of the minor coaches have told me that they t know they were supposed to be sending me a copy of their game sheets Well they re not but it the only way to get anything into the paper about the games If you a story on your game Soccer a fast grower Soccer is obviously a fast growing sport in Canada Attendance at the CFL AllStar fiasco was around 000 while on the same day more than showed up to watch the New York Cosmos the Toronto Metros Croatia Five times as many fans ata soccer game football game says something even though the football game was the game it was It no wonder the sport is
